I really struggled with Russian numbers at first! This is a long post, but there’s no way to condense it really. All pronunciation stresses in bold. Hope this helps someone!!
The basics:
It’s good to know the number 0, for giving and receiving phone numbers.
Numbers 8, 9, and 10 are colloquially pronounced ‘восимь’, ‘девить’, and ‘десить’, with the second syllable sounding much more subtle.
Moving on…
These are formed by taking away ‘ы’ (for 4) and ‘ь’ (for 5-9) and adding ‘надцать’ at the end. Notice for 12, ‘два’ turns into ‘две’.
(I’ve just noticed for 18 and 19, I’ve accidentally put two vowels in bold instead of one. 18 is ‘восемнадцать’ and 19 is ‘девятнадцать’!)
Then it gets a bit easier!
Count from 20 onwards the way you do in English:
Onwards…
(It’s frustrating, because there’s the pattern of adding ‘десят’ at the end from 50 onwards, but it disappears at 90…)
The rest of the hundreds:
Counting in the hundreds is also done the same way as in English. So 123 is 100 + 20 + 3, which is сто двадцать три.
Last set of numbers for now:
These are the basics!! Happy studying! 💫💛✨
