so having watched a few qianlong related dramas, i've been seeing variations in their costuming. one thing i've noticed is that dramas either have that white cloth that goes around the womans neck with one half tucked into the opening of her clothes (idk the proper name rip), or they dont have that at all. classic examples - yanxi, which dont have them, and ruyi, where the women seem like they wouldn't be caught dead without them. is that a stylistic choice or is one inaccurate for the time?

The white scarf (for lack of better word) definitely exist in history, because you see it in photographs of late Qing dynasty women:

Whether they are accurate to the Qianlong era is unclear.

Basically their purpose is really just to keep the neck warm.

Hi! That’s very hard to answer, since there are so many ways to approach the question.
