My mother just started running her own theatre company known as Ergo Arts. And with it she's started running a few workshops with kids. My friend Sabrina (who is also in my band) ran the days events, and documented it. We gave each kid a camera (donated for the day by Jorjas Photography) and we explored the meaning of home through the themes of Homer's the Odyssey, as requested by my mom. It is part of a project called Through Your Eyes, based of off the Odyssey.

McDonalds is pretty damn delicious at 2:30 in the morning, I have to admit. As someone who was once a vegan, I really enjoyed the McNuggets. I guess everything tastes amazing at 3 in the morning. 

It was an odd experience. I have never mailed a package that far away before (they live in Salzburg, Austria) and basically, I knew it was going to be expensive to send because it was fairly heavy, but then I got there and they were like: "Okay, that will be $36.96, please" and I basically had to pick up my jaw off the floor and ask if there was a mistake, and they were very compassionate. They said there was an alternate route which would cost only $17.50, but it would take three months to get there. All I could think about was what the hell kind of route would take three months to get there. I could walk there with the package faster than they could take it there. 

ANYWAY, no complaining, I paid the fee. My cousins received the package three or four days ago, and were very surprised and excited!

These were the contents:

A whoopee cushion

A bag of skittles (which they don't have in Austria - what?)

A pair of glasses in the shape of electric guitars

A recipe for apple pie

Some animal themed pencils with animal erasers

A card (my sister wrote an adorable poem about caring, it was awesome)

My dad and sister went camping this weekend so I put together this mix CD for them and after every song or so, I recorded myself saying stuff, almost like a radio show. It was really dumb, but my sister loved it!

75. Try a New Food

For the first time ever tried Eggs Benedict. I went to the Starving Artist, in Toronto and had a delicious eggs benny (although I had nothing to compare it to really... it could have been the worst). There was the hollandaise sauce on top of two poached eggs, on top of caramelized bacon on top of two, very delicious waffles. The fruit was fine, but honestly, the waffles and eggs were so filling and delicious I can't remember the rest of the day very well.

89. Fireworks

It was Canada Day yesterday! Fun filled! That top picture is of me and my friend Leah, and we were pretty much like that all night!We had a whole package of fireworks. Only one was a dud. And I lit one which was cool and terrifying. There was a bit of a crowd which was nice and when a good one went off we got applause. I've never really celebrated Canada Day solidly, but fireworks have that awe factor. No matter who you are, you can't help but look up with a grin on your face and wide eyes.

21. Listen to Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon, on vinyl

It was pretty awesome. Not what I expected. Very soundscapey. I listened to it with a friend of mine. Honestly, I found it very intellectual. I also LOVE the song "Money" and the woman they brought in to do all the crazy vocals is unbelievable, especially in "The Great Gig in the Sky". It definitely earns its title for one of the best albums ever made. The ideas presented mixed with the lovely musical inclination and the sampling make it a (very obviously) brilliantly thought out album. Very symbolic. And from what I've read about it, has shaped the years it was relevant. 

Every time I hear "The Great Gig in the Sky" though, it makes me think of the film C.R.A.Z.Y, which, if you haven't seen it, is absolutely phenomenal. But it's not the only film it's involved in, and with such brilliant instrumentals, I can see why.

96. Do something Awesome for my Dad

It was actually a lovely night and worked out really nicely. I planned the whole thing in a surprise. I bought a Frankie Valli and the 4 seasons vinyl for him and inside, I hid two movie tickets to Jersey Boys (a film he really wanted to see) and an invitation to dinner. I also wrote him a little note that said:

My Dearest Father, 

Thank you for driving me around, putting up with my stress and PMS induced fits of rage and for still loving me when I was clearly being a less than exemplary daughter. I promise that when you get old[er] I will wipe your butt and also drive you around to whatever you would like, particularly nature walks for the elderly and also any sort of manly knitting courses you would care to enjoy.

I also tried to take him out for a fancy dinner (to which he postponed) and bought him popcorn. All in all, a fairly successful evening filled with quality father/daughter bonding time. 

On our extravagant walk in the rain (where we bought some lovely vinyls and some FIFA stickers) my ten year old sister and I made up a few code signals so we could talk to each other while not talking.

I would post it, but my sister said it is top secret. We even made a spit pact. 

The jist of it, different hand signals mean different things. She isn't officially out of school yet, but when she is, I'm probably drag her along on this bucket list with me.
