Some progress how i made my animation for this month's Vgen challenge: paws!!
I first made mini sketches to decide what I would make, initially i thought i'd make an illustration, but then had this brilliant idea!
The first digital sketch! Ver very rough XD
Somehow i was able to make a cute sketch!
I then color blocked it, and made every part (paw 1, paw 2, neck, torso, etc) a separate layer so i could puppet it later! I planned to learn to tween instead of doing frame-by-frame like the last GIFs i made.
During coloring, the max layers i reached was 85 🙀 i was scared it would crash, but luckily that didnt happen and i managed to merge layers down to 39 when i finished coloring. Making the puppets took 14 ½ hours!
I then downloaded Alight Motion & imported all layers to it. Then I layer parented and changed the pivot points so they were controllable like puppets!!
(Learned to make things swing)
I made things swing and make it look natural and like theres gravity!
I also made audio for the aniamtion with my friend at this stage! It took like 30-40 tries
I then started to learn to use keyframes to make the paws clap and change direction, and blinking. (Keyframes for rotation, position & opacity)
I then deleted the layer images from my phone bc i like to save space but then scarily discovered the app loses access to them 🙀 i almost had a breakdown but was luckily able to resolve it and bring back the layers without losing all my animation.
I then just continued that for ages! Every diamond on the layers/lines is an individually placed keyframe. Still better than frame-by frame tho.
[Insert finished result, sadly cannot upload more than 2 videos per post, check my other post for the final]
Then when I finished the paw clapping, i added a little effect detail to it, and animated the lil happy scream at the end, which was more fun, since its not so repetitive, and more unique and natural. Then I was done!!! The animation part took like 15 hours, so in total I worked 29 ½ h on this! For 22s. But i once did frame-by-frame 32h of work for 2s of animation so ill definitely tween more in the future!
