SAM
Sam sighed, for once he didnβt care about what she said. He knew why she was being snippy and snarky with him. βOf course you do,β Sam replied, βjust think about how bad it could have been, because what Iβm wearing and how Iβm looking isnβt bad,β he said looking at Bree, taking her hands in his, βand you were the one that told me that my Sunday best was just too much, so Iβm not wearing that and Iβm not wearing sweats, so itβs gonna be fine.β It was kind of nice knowing that for once he wasnβt the one with the major freak out, well besides, the fact that he was meeting her grandparents which is a bit different from parents. Β Sam let out a breath, βokay, so talk about all the good things, and donβt forget the volunteering in the soup kitchen I bet sheβd love that and donβt tell her about being an under aged stripper with a fake ID so that you could help support your family, got it.β He placed his hands on her shoulders, pressing a kiss against her lips, βrelax, I got this, Sam Evans is one charmer. I got you to actually date me.β Sam smiled at her, βand everyone knows Iβm a saint, theyβre gonna play when the saints next time I play a football game.β Sam nodded his head, he could do that, just listen and call her whatever she wants to be called, he could do that, and if things went as planned, he was going to be told to call her grandma at the end of the night.
As they stepped inside, he could smell the food, and it smelled just like his grandmaβs cooking, well not exactly but it reminded him of it, he could really work with this. βHello,β Sam said, with a smile playing over his lips, βIβm Sam,β he held out his hand, βand Iβm sorry for not coming over to meet you sooner. Iβve been a bit too busy with after school activities and volunteering. But itβs nice to finally meet you.β Sam bit down on his lip, βand I know that smell, reminds me of the summers on grandparents farm.β
Anyone could have thought that walking through the doors would have led to less nerves, her grandmotherβs presence along with Samβs usually something that could calm her. Instead she held her breath seeing the two parts of her world collide. Her family that she loved and who had put her on a better path and the boy who actually was the reason she thought she was on the straight and narrow. It truly was because of Sam that she wasnβt out behaving the same way she did in Chicago. She wasnβt reckless and promiscuous. Instead she was with one person who really was a charmer just like he said. He had gotten her to date him but also had gotten her to actually fall for him.Β
Bree kept her hand in his, opposite to the hand that he reached out to her Gran. She introduced herself as Gran which only made Breeβs shoulders relax some. She offered a hint of a smile. She could see that her grandmother was trying to make the boy feel welcomed just with that one gesture. Calling her gran only was allowed by her grandchildren. Everyone else called her Minta or Min. Bree smiled at Samβs words.Β βYou never told me your grandparents had a farm,β she truly hadnβt asked much about his grandparents instead focusing on his parents.Β
Really Bree was trying to distract from the time Sam had mentioned. If her grandmother truly knew how many times Sam had been in the apartment or even just in Breeβs bedroom she would have had some quick witted comment about how it really had been long enough.Β βBut yeah Gran, Samβs southern too.β Her hand finally falling from Samβs.Β βDo you want some help?β Before her grandmother could even say no, Bree was washing her hands and seeing what she could do. She wasnβt a good cook by any means but she could at least help prepare things.Β βYou can get to know Sam and you can ask him whatever you want.β Even as she said the words she held her breath. How was it that she was giving her grandmother complete reign in being able to ask her boyfriend anything. Then again maybe being away from Sam and not worrying about his every word would ease her nerves more.Β
