I mean, I do think we need to be better about how were handling the situation, especially in regards to the child facilities (better accommodations, more immediate health care because these kids just got dragged across the desert, etc.). But calling what’s happening to concentration camps is both a spit in the face to victims of the Holocaust and other genocides and far more concerned with creating a moral and political panic than objectively looking at the situation and working to improve it.

The mistake people are making here is to equate concentration camps with death camps.

All death camps are concentration camps.

Not all concentration camps are death camps.

When we put kids in a tent city and deny them access to basic hygiene, we are running concentration camps.

We are putting politically inconvenient individuals in poorly managed prisons. That’s what a concentration camp is. That’s the base definition.

We are locking them up and not meeting their needs.

Kids are dying while we argue about whether it meets the definition.
