You're Magic Now - Chapter 11 Preview
Lumine walked side-by-side with Ayaka through the forest that surrounded Alfea. At the latter’s instance, they came out here to clear their heads. With the simulation room soon to be up and running again, it meant that the midterms would continue. The thought of that put Lumine on edge. Her last experience with it was less than pleasant, and while Kaveh said he would count it as her grade if she didn’t want to go through the test again, it was still hard to forget about it.
Ayaka wasn’t about to let her suffer in silence, either.
“Why don’t we talk about the dreams you’ve been having?” she suggested. “Have you found out anything else about the boy you’ve been dreaming about?”
“Not a whole lot,” said Lumine as she kicked aside a rock. “Ever since the exam, it’s like I’m either dreaming about him or having nightmares. Mostly the latter.”
“Was it that bad? The test.”
Lumine shook her head. “It wasn’t the exam. I mean, what happened felt like nightmares that I’ve had before were made reality. And they came back full force because of the exam.”
Ayaka reached over, as if to grab her hand, but hesitated and clapped her hand on Lumine’s shoulder instead. “Let’s focus on the other dreams, okay? The one about the boy. You said that he sounded familiar, and that he knew your name?”
Lumine nodded, kicking another stone. “He also looks familiar. And I know that it’s not because we look alike either.”
“You did say that you thought you had seen him somewhere else. Perhaps that would be why.” Lumine could only hum again. The exact place still eluded her, though. It was kind of annoying. Ayaka let her hand fall. “Is there anything else?”
“Well…” Lumine glanced up as she thought about it. “Whenever I dream about him, it’s like it’s always something new. The dream isn’t ever the same. The only similar thing is that it’s like… It’s like he’s trying to tell me something. To show me something.”
“Do you think it could have something to do with unlocking your powers as a fairy?”
To that, Lumine could only shrug. “Maybe. I mean…” She looked down at her hands. “I’ve been wondering about this since I met Barbara. Why do I have this power when no one on Earth has had magic for centuries? And why does it come so… so easily to me?” At least, it had been coming so easy to her since she gained her wings. “And that Aether guy that’s been showing up in my dreams… It feels like he wants to tell me something, but I don’t know what.”
Ayaka leaned forward, tilting her head in curiosity and confusion. “Aether?”
“Aether the Traveler. He looks exactly like him.” Lumine sighed. “The last time that I was in the library, I was able to find a ton of books about him. But when I went there yesterday, there wasn’t a single one. Either they were never there to begin with and the system had a freak out, or someone’s keeping them from me.” Lumine loudly groaned, tugging on the locks of hair that framed her face. “I don’t get why, and that on top of everything else is making my head hurt.”
Ayaka hesitated before patting Lumine on the shoulder. “I’m sure that we’ll find something.”
“Thanks, Ayaka.” Lumine sincerely hoped that she was right.
