Rocky has to stay in the farthest reach of the ship to keep himself safe, and Simon is put in a room surrounded by astrophage. Grace and Rocky are working hard on a solution to it, but in the meantime he’s sequestered to a single room near the airlock. It’s dark and small and doesn’t have a window.

Grace tries to talk to Simon every chance he can, but he has to do his science in his lab. So there are long stretches where Simon is alone. In a dark room. And it’s hard to get rid of blood. And the scent permeates. And he wakes up screaming every time he sleeps.
