A bit more paint on the Doom sacrificial toothbrush holder.
First coat down on the sacrificial pen holder.
A couple of shots for scale.
I REALLY want to buy an Anycubic Photon resin printer for higher res prints. An airbrush would be sweet too.
Who wants to buy these to help pay for it???
Might as well paint the Pinky Demon while Iām in the mood.

Decided to paint this guy today. I only had shitty old paints and brushes and Iāve never painted a model before, but he turned out okay.
Some photos taken with my real camera @ 80mm.
80mm is a good portrait focal length, recreates the field of view and perspective of your eyes, so proportions and scale look more accurate to what your eyes see.
Baron Of Hell 3D Print.
12.5 hour print, .3 layer height, 60mm a sec, 2 walls, plenty of support and a raft for better bed adhesion.
20cm tall and very good detail considering the scale.
The head and mouth has maintained very good detail, even the teeth have managed to survive. I placed some small 2mm patches of support under each tooth, which worked wonderfully.
The hands survived intact with great detail and even the hairs on the legs look fantastic.
He stands perfectly with no balance issues, which is awesome.
I was going to print him at 25cm tall, but Iāll save really large prints for the final high detail 24+ hour prints.
A big thanks for all the likes and reblogs, itās very much appreciated!
Mancubus Turntable - Old WIP I never uploaded.
Pinky Demon 3D Print.
15cm tall, 12+ hours of printing, .3 layer height, 25% infill, 60mm a sec, a lot of support.
Spent a good portion of Saturday trying to get this print to work. Had about 3 failed prints before I finally nailed the support placement and settings, and then let this one run overnight.
I had to use support with varying angles, otherwise it kept failing about an inch into the print. It made it tough to remove, but it was worth the hassle to see the smaller details survive.
Thereās a layer of separation along his right side from the top of the brow through to his bicep. Not sure what the cause of this is, but it can be filled easily enough.
Again, photos donāt do the print justice. You can see the veins and muscle definition clearly. For only a .3 layer height, it looks amazing.
Detail could be a lot better though, but print time would be a good 24+ hours, not including the addition of a stand.
Next time he will be posed and have some mounting pins in the feet. Heās front-heavy and wonāt stand on his own.
I canāt describe how happy I am to see these prints coming to life, knowing I made it 100% myself and printed in my own home. Itās extremely satisfying!
I suppose now Iāll have to go paint shopping :-)

Still fine tuning my settings, so thereās a lot of room for improvement here.
For those interested, the Simplify3D settings were 1500 layer height, 3 top and bottom layers, 3 walls / shells, 60mm a second, 5% infill (fast honeycomb), bed only support, PLA @ 195 deg noz, 50 deg bed, cooling disabled. For some reason i keep getting a Thermal Runaway issue whenever i use cooling, which stops the print and locks up my printer. Nozzle temps drops rapidly and it all locks up. Weird.
There are a few holes in places where there needs to be more internal support, because there is essentially none. For really high quality prints, ill most likely use multiple processes at different layer heights and change the infill percentage under areas that need more support, rather than increasing the infill percentage over the whole model, which will increase print times greatly.
Print time was about 6 hours, which is pretty good considering the size and level of detail.
3D printed objects always look much smoother in real life, photos tend to exaggerate the bumps
This print was just the head from an older low detail version of the Baron Of Hell model. This was a test to see if it would print okay with separate shells (eyes), once the āseparate connected surfacesā option was used. It turned out pretty great considering. There has been no other cleanup or processing on this print other than the removal of the support.
Iām still working on the collectible Doomguy from the new Doom, but i swear, that model is cursed! I tried printing it 4-5 times and each time it failed for different reasons. Iāve since decided on a radical overhaul of the ball joint setup, so once im finished with that ill print it again and upload the files to Thingiverse.
Iāll be printing a high detail full-body Pinky Demon today to see if my support and print settings translate over to something with finer details. Pinky has a lot more overhangs and will require quite a bit more support, and a lot of these overhangs are fine details, so it will be a tough model to print. Fingers crossed.
My plan for full body models is to build a unique stand for each, with mounting blocks in the feet so they can stand up while posed, with no balancing issues.
Iāve got a lot to learn but its coming along nicely and im loving it so far.
Edit: had to repost this as photos had weird aspect ratio.Ā
Hey...
Long time no see ;-) Sorry for teleporting off the face of the earth, I've been busy with life and my projects all had issues i had to deal with. It took a while to get my 3D printer up and running, it had a few issues on delivery that needed fixing and I had trouble getting the supplier to acknowledgeā and help fix them. Also, my PC kinda shat itself once I got some of my models to a certain level of detail. Pinky for example, would no longer open in MudBox, so I was not able to do any more work on it. I had always assumed it was memory related, and sure enough when I was able to upgrade my ram to 32gb, the files opened just fine. No thanks to Autodesk who never replied to ANY of my help threads in their forums! I only just got my printer up and running this week, so all I've made so far are a few test prints. The obligatory Bender head, and Saturday night I printed off the Doom Marine collectible Toy from the new Doom. Bender looks really awesome, but the Doom figurine was just a bad bad model to print. I downloaded it from Thingiverse, and it was immediately obvious that it was simply ripped from Doom and then a whole bunch of smoothing and subdivision was added to it, which smoothed it yes, but killed a lot of detail. Also, the person who uploaded it to Thingiverse, didn't do any work on it at all to prepare it for printing, so it was basically just a bunch of shells intersecting each other (nooooo!). While cleaning up the support structures, the arms came off cleanly as well as the little pouches on his ammo belt. Waste of 5 hours! I decided to use it as an opportunity to do the little guy some justice and make a new version of the model that not only prints properly, but is a bit more fun. I've left the model at the same low poly as it was, so the sharp edges of the polygons catch the light, and I've exaggerated some of the details, such as the frame of the helmet visor so it stands out a bit more, and some of the details in the armour. I took it a step further and built ball joints into the wrists, shoulders, hips and head, so you can move his limbs around a bit. Maybe even give him a little fist bump. I haven't printed him yet, I finished setting up the slicer last night and have the gcode ready to print as soon as I finish work. If all goes well, I'll post some pictures here and then upload the file to Thingiverse so anyone else with a printer can make their own. I have done some early slicing tests with my Pinky Demon model, and the numbers point to some pretty lengthy prints for a model at a decent size. I'll be waiting until I've done a lot more printing before I tackle a large high detail print, because there are so many things that could go wrong, no one wants a 40+ hour print to fail after 35 hours, let alone after 3 hours. Stay tuned!
Hey, it's been a little while since the last update here. Got anything to show?
I just get busy now and then. A few new updates recently and more to come, stay tuned!

A big thanks to all new and existing followers for your comments and likes. Its very much appreciated. I promise things will only get better as i improve and learn more about the tools.Ā
This coming weekend iāll be picking up my 3D printer. Itās a Wombot Exilis XL, with a nice big 250x250x320 build volume. I canāt wait to start printing some models!
I am yet to play the new Doom, but Iām really looking forward to sitting down and examining every inch of it in a couple of weeks.Ā

3D Printed Models?
How many people would be interested in 3D Printed Models?
Available as either flat single colour prints, or a super limited run with full air brushed colour?
All models will be self balanced and posed, with possible variants featuring interchangeable base plates and possibly even configurable set pieces.
Initial production would be limited to single structure models with a max volume of 20L x 20W x 18H cm.
I hope to begin prototyping within the next 3 months.
P.SĀ
A huge thank you to everyone whoās following the blog. I just recently hit 200 followers and it really means a lot to me.Ā
