Fourteen years ago, I was asked to leave a Charlotte public library computer room while breastfeeding my two-month-old son. The library later apologized after acknowledging that staff had misunderstood the state rules. Today, as a full-spectrum doula, lactation advocate and trainer, I look back at that experience and asks a bigger question: Who is educating the village? This month, The Pink Grasshopper explores breastfeeding, Black maternal health, community support, autonomy, history—and why this conversation has never been just about breastfeeding.
