In 1967, at the height of the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War, the Israeli Air Force launched an unprovoked attack on the USS Liberty, a US Navy spy ship that was monitoring the conflict from the safety of international waters in the Mediterranean.

Israeli jet fighters hit the vessel with rockets, cannon fire and napalm, before three Israeli torpedo boats moved in to launch a second more devastating attack. Many feminists and SJW’s will say false rape isn’t a big deal or it is downright non existent. One of the main reasons for this is they say “why would any women ever lie about something so traumatic” Well..typically they rarely get in trouble, and on the rare occasion that they do, the punishment is really light. Also they have everything to gain.

Well.. when you consider the general nature of humans and their capacity to lie cheat and do evil, and their even greater capacity to rationalize and justify those actions, coupled with how despite being in a “rape culture” people will side with the victim and bend over backwards for them in support, and how the courts rarely punish women who do lie, and how hard the alleged rapist gets vilified by media and society, even after he is proven innocent, and the power one gets from pretending to be raped to use for her own nefarious purposes..why wouldn’t a woman lie about rape?

Stifling a crisis in Balochistan. Balochistan is Pakistan’s largest province (in terms of area, not population) and shares a border with Afghanistan. Pakistan as a whole is notoriously dangerous for journalists in particular as well as activists and academics, but the Balochistan province is on a whole new level. The violence is also often unreported, uninvestigated and undiscussed.

There has recently been a slight increase in the attention paid to the region in Western media (which often focuses on Pakistan’s issues with terrorism over nearly everything else). Human Rights Watch at the end of July released a 132-page report called “‘We Can Torture, Kill, or Keep You for Years’: Enforced Disappearances by Pakistan Security Forces in Balochistan.“ The report focuses on cases where Baloch separatists, militants, or those suspected to be such, are the victims of forced disappearance by the Pakistani government. Often, these result in extrajudicial executions and torture. Human Rights Watch found that there had been over 150 victims of so-called "kill and dump” operations since January (although I wouldn’t be surprised if that number were higher).  The report goes on to look at specific cases of abuse and long-term detainment of opposition leaders and activists. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan also conducted a fact-finding mission on the deteriorating situation in the province this spring, releasing their report in June.

Pakistan’s military chief, General Kayani, denied the army’s ties to those disappearances and murders in a speech in the provincial capital of Quetta on the 1st.

This June I interviewed Malik Siraj Akbar, the editor of Balochistan’s first online English-language newspaper, The Baloch Hal. He discussed the media blackout on news from Balochistan and his dissatisfaction with international and watchdog coverage of the crisis going on in his province.
