CALL ME DEV π₯
βCurrently on quests to hunt the beasts that escaped the dark.β
Every battle is another attempt to prove something to himself. Every beast slain is one more step toward the name he intends to reclaim. Yet beneath the stubborn drive lives something softer, something most warriors bury deep. Dev protects the weak with the loyalty of a dog guarding its home, even when no one is watching.
Some wounds sharpen a man. Others haunt him. Dev carries both.

Born to a family with deep roots along the Indus River, Devendra Yug grew up in the spirit-soaked town of Chanderi, raised mostly by his mother, a wandering performer whose laughter and songs once filled the dusty streets. From her he inherited warmth, charm, and a fierce devotion to the people he called his own.
From a young age, Dev showed the makings of a warrior. Strong, stubborn, and quick to throw himself into danger if it meant protecting someone else. The town came to know him as its most reliable defender, a young man who carried fire in both spirit and skill.
But Devβs pride was once broken in a way that still follows him.
In his early years as a fighter, he faced a mysterious wandering swordsman in a duel meant to prove his rising reputation. Instead, the encounter ended in public defeat. Word spread quickly, and with it came whispers that Devendra Yug had been nothing more than another arrogant young warrior who reached too high too soon.
He left soon after.
Some say he left to restore his honor. Others believe he left because the shame of that moment burned too deeply to stay.
Before his departure, Dev had discovered a gold vein in the hills outside Chanderi, enough to secure his motherβs care as her mind slowly slipped into fragile madness. He made sure she would never struggle, even if he could not remain beside her.
Yet the darkness that haunted Chanderi never truly left his thoughts. Spirits and beasts had always stalked the edges of that town, and they seemed drawn to Dev in ways he could never fully explain.
So he began to hunt them.
Now Dev wanders far from the riverlands that raised him, chasing monsters across unfamiliar lands. Some battles are fought for coin, others for those who cannot defend themselves. But beneath every victory is the same quiet purpose.
To grow stronger.
To face the darkness without faltering.
And perhaps one day return home as the warrior he once believed himself to be.
When he left, his mother had only smiled softly and pressed her hand against his cheek.

Devlin glanced down at himself like the answer ought to be obvious, then tipped his hat back just enough to meet their eyes. βSuspenders,β he said, easy as anything. βBelts are for men who expect a quiet day. I like knowing thingsβll hold steady when the job turns rough.β He smirked faintly. βBesidesβ¦ leaves less between me and a quick draw.β
Sherif you have a restless, wandering look about you. How much longer do you think it'll be before you tire of Blackthorn Hallow?
Devlinβs gaze drifted past the cowboys, out toward the edge of town like he was already tracking something no one else could see. βNever had much reason to stay anywhere before,β he said after a moment, voice low and steady.
βPlaces come and go. People too.β His jaw set just slightly. βBut my work here isnβt finished. Not with the things creeping out past sundown, not with folks telling me about ghastly sightings and wolves that donβt run like wolves should.β
What did you do to earn Delia's ire? Who started the silly feud? Surely Delia didn't just 1 day, attack you out of the blue.
Deven let out a quiet breath, expression turning thoughtful. βShe's demon-blood. I had a duty to end her,β he said plainly, no pride in it, just fact. βAnd when the moment came, I couldnβt do it. So I warned her instead, told her to be careful, to stay out of reach of people worse than me.β
His mouth curved faintly, half amused, half conflicted. βEver since then, sheβs beenβ¦ different with me. Circling, testing. Some days it feels like sheβs trying to intimidate me, other days it feels like sheβs flirting, and I still havenβt decided which oneβs more dangerous.β

Ever been described as 'too strong for your own good'?
He huffed a quiet laugh, βI suppose it depends whoβs saying it. Sounds like concern coming from the right personβ¦ and a challenge from everyone else.β
"Hey Dev, lemme see something..." Greta runs up to Deven a little out of breath as she grabs his hand and pushes up the sleeve to his crook of his elbow. Carefully she inspects his wrist, seeing the angry marks that colored his skin. She frowns.
"I missed these ..." she grabs his other wrist checking for another friction burn. "I didn't think you could get hurt..." It sounds stupid, hearing the words out loud. Everyone had vulnerabilities, why wouldn't he? A knot forms in her belly as her thumb caresses the abrasions. She looks up at him, an apology on her face. Why did she think he couldn't be hurt?
"I'm sorry ... I'm so sorry I missed these..."
βIt's okay, Greta. This is just how it goes for me. Same way a boxer walks out with bruised ribs or a runner comes back with torn knees. Itβs part of it.β A small breath leaves him, almost amused, almost tired, but not unhappy. βIβve been doing this a long time. I know what Iβm getting into.β
Deven's eyes soften when she looks up at him, apology written all over her. That is what gets him, not the sting in his skin. He shifts a little closer instead.
βYou donβt have to be sorry for not seeing every scrape on me,β he quietly spoke. βI donβt want you carrying that.β His hand turns, fingers closing gently around hers. There is something warm in the way continued to look at her, something steady and sure. βIf anythingβ¦ I like that you care enough to notice at all. Iβm alright, Greta. I promise.β

The reason the road was visible was because the mist had finally lifted. Deven had only wanted to enjoy a normal walk, taking in the quiet around them, when they suddenly realized a road had appeared where there had been nothing before. It was almost as if they had been facing away from it the entire time, and only when Greta glanced back did she notice it and bring it to his attention. Weird.
"Nope, not getting in. This just screams 'fae portal' and my last experience in those wasn't the best."
"the river only takes what it's owed." -alex (western)
Devlin didnβt interrupt right away, just watched her from where the brush thinned, that same stubborn set in her shoulders unchanged, like the land itself had carved her that way. His jaw shifted as her words settled, familiar in the way old warnings tend to be, and he stepped forward just enough to be seen.
βRiver donβt bargain Miss,β he said evenly, voice low but carrying, eyes on her like he was measuring distance and memory all at once. βSo if itβs collecting, Iβd start asking who put you in its debt.β
Devlin glanced up at the sky, squinting at the way the sun had dulled behind a sudden sweep of clouds before looking back at Piper with a small, easy shrug.
βCold front rolling in faster than expected,β he said, voice calm like it didnβt unsettle him at all, though he remained staring at it a second longer on the shifting horizon. So far, his senses were not telling him that something was off, or anything supernatural was happening. That's good, right?
βHeatβs been sitting heavy all day, something had to break it.β

What is it about needing to be likeable? Is it a survival thing?
βPart survival, part ego, part habit. People treat you better when they like you, and sometimes that's all the difference between a closed door and an opened door."
