last night i didn’t expect that call from the fire chief that the police needed someone to show up with them. reporting that 911 dispatchers had said that a staggering amount of calls were made about some car being lit on fire that was reported as stolen and had 12,000 dollars inside full of jewelry. the car was stranded amongst a back highway with no traffic at that time, but the calls were from the victim and houses from the distance who saw the towering, angry flames eating away at the night. so i went since i didn’t really have anything holding me back, and honestly, i’ve always just seen cars on fire online or on television. this was truly a sight to see in person last night the heat rolling off the metal, the sirens cutting through the dark, and the acrid smell of smoke hanging heavy in the air. it was tough and exhausting work, but with me stumbling into officer olivia carter, things felt a little more calm during the chaos. i worked closely with my team, feeling grounded knowing she was right there keeping the perimeter secure. we stayed out there for a countless three hours battling the aftermath, and boy, was i bone-tired by the time everything was finally all clear and handed over to the cops.
