People are falsely accusing Yeloenk of calling Poth fans proshippers and p*dophiles when the video never adressed the fans like that, just the ship and creator (who openly stated to be a proshipper but was NOT called a p*dophile. No person in this video was called such a thing! Just the nature of the original relationship!). Like, is it really the only thing you took out from this video?

Meanwhile dismissing the entire video and its actual reason for existing, which is spreading info about the ship having a problematic past that many people did not know about. Because it's been swept under the rug for years. And honestly, looking at the comments it looks like many people would prefer to know it earlier because it makes them uncomfortable so the video was needed. Making people aware of the history behind something is always a good thing. Hiding it is not always a good thing.

Besides, the opinion about the rewrites at the end does not eliminate the first part of the video which is weird implications within the character's canon, supported by evidence (and that's not even everything that could be used).

The past of the ship is problematic and aging up is weird AND there are fan versions that many people separated from the original source that have nothing to do with proshipping. Two things can be true at once. The video does not attack people who were unaware or only liked the unproblematic version. It just states a weird origin of it that has been buried for years and addresses the aging up.

So some will continue to take it as a personal attack on the fans themselves and every person who does rewrites meanwhile the video mentioned rewrites in context of being tired of seeing them because they're an aged-up thing... Like bro. Yeloenk explained in the comments that rewrites of things are not entirely a bad thing, it just depends on the context (which I agree with).

many of them were genuinely just unaware because many fans only look at content on the surface and then end up developing their own interpretation based on it (a theory I had about the popularity of this ship was that people didn't actually like the problematic parts, they just liked the cleaned fan version and didn't know anything about the original. Glad to be right, looking at the comments)

Also mind boggling how Nekophy is not openly criticized MORE despite being one of the most prominent people in the UT AU (especially shipkid) community

So many comments are surprised about the origins of the ship because it's not common knowledge

And sure a part of the reason is that people just don't bother to look into the source of the characters they like and that's on them

But the other part is that when those who DO know keep on only aging up (this is a problem in itself that I could write another post about) and rewriting the ship especially without acknowledging the problematic origins or in fact just erasing them entirely while doing so, people who don't know have harder time realizing that there's something wrong in the first place, because they are only presented with a sanitized version that then becomes popular (and also you look like you're being ignorant!)

So yeah, how would they know when the fandom fosters the tendency to ignore all the problems in favor of cutesy fanart that at first sight has nothing wrong with it

Then the cutesy fanart gets spred and what could go wrong, right

This is why rewrites should only either not exist or be done carefully

And other thing that I have to find screenshots for but I'm sure someone remembers if they read about it on her blog... (Finding and attaching in reblogs would be appreciated because I'm quite busy but I NEED people to know this)
