I was thinking about this idea for the shades of magic series. Do you think it's possible for someone to gain powers through blood transfusions from an Antari or maybe an eye transplant? (Does the black eye hold any power?)
I'm not very familiar with the magic system. My knowledge is surface level and I only know a couple of things since I didn't properly read the books and I don't plan to. I found out that Lila happens to be an Antari, and I just can't stand that trope. (Of course, anyone can like this. It's just not my cup of tea!)
So I was thinking, is stealing magic viable. Can that happen? I'm sure there would probably be as many consequences as benefits but I thought it could be something interesting since there are already thieves in the books.
hey :)
very interesting questions you asked! Some have been answered in canon, while some others never did (and I try to answer them in fan fictions haha). So I'll specify when it's canon or just my guess :)
I'm sorry if it's long! I'll put it under a read more. Please ask more questions if you want, because I like chatting about this series!
Do you think it's possible for someone to gain powers through blood transfusions from an Antari or maybe an eye transplant? (Does the black eye hold any power?)
I'll start from the last question because it is confirmed in canon that it's not the black eye that holds any power, but the human being who is born antari. So I don't believe that transferring the eye to another being does anything but you never know! The sequel series to adsom, Threads of power, only has one book and it's not finished. It is possible that such issue could be raised there. Being an antari isn't hereditary either, but casual. Lila's eye was removed when she was a child but this didn't stop her from discovering her powers later, after she found someone who helped her hone her dormant skills.
Some of these facts about how antari are born and what they can do are still unclear. The canon says that books about antari were destroyed when the doors between black London and the rest of the Londons were sealed, so it's anybody's guess, not even antari themselves know all the blood spells they could do. So there's a possibility that their blood may have healing properties if transplanted, but in my opinion, it would just for a brief time and wouldn't transfer the antari skills competely. As for the eye, it would be curious to see if the person who removed Lila's did something with it we don't know and now there's a black-eyed person in London who has magic :)
Aside from the mystery aspect for the sake of the plot, I think the author may expand on antari lore etc. in the two remaining books of Threads of power, a series set seven years after the conclusion of the last adsom book (with the same characters plus new additions). In this series there's a new character who tinkers with magic and does experiments and creates new stuff that could potentially be dangerous for those who want to antari magic for themselves. This character (named Nadyia) made it very clear in canon that she wants to know more about antari blood or whether, for example, if two antari have a child, the baby could be antari or the magic balances itself and they wouldn't. So this leads to the last question!
So I was thinking, is stealing magic viable. Can that happen?
These are spoilers for The fragile threads of power, the first book in the aforementioned sequel to the first adsom trilogy. Stealing magic is talked about there. Nadyia, the character I told you is a tinkerer/scientist/alchemist/however you want to call them, created a bracelet and ring that can steal antari magic. The person who wants to steal the magic wears the ring and the person whose magic is stolen wears the bracelet (that is more like a manacle but hey). Once the thief removes the ring, the other piece falls away and the person whose magic is stolen gets it back, so this method is just temporary. Nadyia created this for fun as an experiment, but the villains get them and they steal Lila's magic (doesn't last long). At the end of the book Lila destroys both because she doesn't want to risk them falling into the wrong hands again.
Which brings me to a last point I wanted to make that is not canon but it could be in the future lol so this is my idea about stealing magic. Another character who appears in Threads of power, Tes, can do what Nadyia can and more. Tes isn't just able to create and fix magical stuff. She can see the threads of magic and manipulate them. Basically, she knows which magic a person has because she sees colored threads on people's heads (antari magic is silver, for example). So imagine Tes like an electricitian and the threads of magic as cables. At the end of Threads, Kell's magic was broken but Tes fixed it by taking an antari thread/cable from Lila's magic. In a way, that was a sort of a transplant. Tho it was from antari to antari and it worked. But what if the villains got wind of what Tes can do? She could potentially manipulate people's magic in a more final way compared to the bracelet/ring set.
And this is all! I hope I didn't forget anything. If you want to ask more, go ahead :)

Woah, this chapter took forever, sorry. I knew what to write but words failed me these last few weeks. Part due to the heatwave and part because of myself. I'm not having a great time and the only thing helping a little is reading, which I'm doing a lot during the day. So I apologize in advance if the next updates may took longer (it will depend on my mood but I know what to write at least). Enjoy this chapter!
Lila’s eyes widened once they entered the emergency room of the nearest hospital. People of different ages sat on blue benches, some of them already drifting off to sleep while they waited for their turn.
She’d never been to such a place during her life. It was fascinating. She could write on her notebook about the experience, but the man by her side held it hostage. She snorted.

“What is love, without freedom?" she murmured against his skin. He leaned close to kiss her shoulder, then to whisper in her ear. "What is life, without you?”

just a one shot set on kell's birthday to celebrate kell's birthday (rated m) hehe
“That looks raw,” Lila declared, seeing the redness on Kell’s back after he returned to her quarters to take a look at his back in her mirror. Hers was bigger than the one in his quarters, borrowed directly from the soner rast.
“I should have kept my shirt on,” he said, grimacing at his reflection.

it’s funny to be part of small fandoms because on one side, you want entire world to know that masterpiece and tons of fanart and alll that stuff but on the other side, magic of small fandoms is that they generally are nice, chill and untoxic ones.
