Steve McGarrett was not having a good day.
Actually, truth be told, it had started last night. He’d gotten home late and the two of you had a fight about him missing dinner. That wasn’t strictly true. You’d been angry that he hadn’t called to let you know. The fact that you were completely in the right hadn’t kept him from snapping at you and accusing you of making demands that were unrealistic when he was on a case. He’d spent a rather uncomfortable night on the sofa.
His morning had started with him discovering you were already gone when he went to apologize. Then he’d had a meeting with the governor which meant he didn’t have time to track you down. Now, he was sitting on the side of the road keeping an eye on one of their suspects.
He eagerly grabbed his phone off the dash when it rang, hoping it was you. He sighed at Danny’s name displayed on his screen. “Yeah.”
“Yeah? That’s nice. That’s how you answer the phone now?”
“Hello, Danny. What can I do for you?” Steve said with zero sincerity. “Better?”
“Much,” his partner agreed. “Do you have that business card we got from the manager yesterday? I need the number.”
“Yeah, just a minute.” He sat the phone down, putting it on speaker, and pulled out his wallet. The card was right where he left it but a folded piece of paper was tucked in beside it. Steve frowned as he rattled off the number and disconnected the call.
He unfolded the paper to find several lipstick kisses in your favorite shade, a simple I love you written in the middle. Fingers rubbed over his lips as he studied it for a long beat until a smile finally curved his lips. He wondered when you’d slipped it into his wallet. Surely, he would have noticed it yesterday. Right?
Grabbing his phone, he pressed on your contact and waited impatiently for you to pick up.
“Hey, baby.”
The mere sound of your voice had tension fading from his shoulders. “Hey.” Silence stretched for a beat before he said, “I found your note.”
“Did you?”
He made a sound of agreement. “When did you leave it?”
“This morning before I left.”
“I thought you were mad at me.”
Low laughter answered him. “I was. Doesn’t mean I don’t love you.”
And the rest of the unease that had been sitting like a knot in his chest all day melted away. “I am so sorry about last night, sweetheart. I was sorry before I ever made it home.”
“But you got there and decided being an asshole was the better choice?”
He chuckled. “Apparently.” He ran a hand down his face. “I hate fighting with you.”
“And I hate sleeping alone so let’s not do that again, Commander.”

People die on the job every summer. Remember that water and shade breaks are crucial when working in the heat, and calling emergency services for signs of serious heat illness (fatigue, nausea/vomiting, headaches, dizziness, clammy skin, confusion, agitation, slurred speech, high body temperature, rapid heart rate, etc.) is entirely appropriate. If you’re afraid to call 911 for reasons such as being undocumented, you’ll need to get very familiar with how to prevent, recognize, and treat heat illness. If you are symptomatic and not allowed a break, water, or medical treatment, walk out. No matter how broke you are, your job is not worth your life.

I see more and more sites and posts talking about the exact hex codes for the lesbian flag, or the right purple for the ace one, and how it should be more or less saturated and I just want to say: pride flags were meant to be sewn in your kitchen. To be spraypainted and to be recognised.
