These are really good, and also show how good a fighter Alastor is, and how he killed SO MANY Angels in the Season 1 Finale Battle - and also that he doesn't need angelic steel to kill them.
How do you feel about Viv revealing on bluesky that she’s leaning more into Lucifer not being a bad guy, but instead just a dreamer who fell in love and defied Heaven’s unjust system? Not gonna lie, it kinda killed my enjoyment of Lucifer completely.
I'm okay with Lucifer not being a "bad guy" bad guy, and I like him being a rebellious dream who fell in love at his core (apple joke 👉👉), I just don't want that to turn into ALL he is.
What I find most interesting about Lucifer is him being rebellious dreamer with a soft side while also being a dismissive asshole who is condescending even to the people he loves (however unintentionally).
Lucifer's characterization in season 2 really bothered and I've wittled it down to two reasons.
(LONG POST AHEAD, PREPARE YOURSELF)
1. His idiocy
I'm sorry but Lucifer acted so stupid this season. Like, weirdly stupid. And I'm not talking about when he confronted Vox despite not being able to harm Sinners. I've seen him criticized for that but it honestly felt really in line with his prideful side and I really, really liked that he did it.
I'm talking about when Vox trapped him.
I'm sorry but him seriously just...standing on a big red X in the middle of the floor with a literal spot-light on it?
I've seen it excused as just his arrogance and him not thinking he'll be harmed in any way, especially because he assumed it was all Charlie's doing, but honestly it just felt stupid. It felt like a very hand-wavey, lazy, quickest-way-possible to get him trapped way of doing things and it was honestly disappointing.
I don't mind Lucifer getting trapped. Main characters getting kidnapped/captured is one of my all-time favorite tropes, especially when they are a powerful character, but it was just so unsatisfyingly easy. I didn't need there to be a big, epic battle or anything, but at least give it a little more conflict. A little more struggle.
Like I genuinely could not feel bad for him. Bro wtf did you expect from a giant red X on the floor??? He's never given me the impression of being an stupid but in that moment all I could think was "oh...so you're an actual idiot."
Maybe that sounds a bit harsh but it seriously annoyed the hell out of me.
(Although if a big part of it is because he assumed Charlie was behind it then that does go to show just how little he actually knows her. Charlie has such a high-energy, in-your-way-face way of doing things that her luring someone to a dark, isolated building and getting them to stand on a big red X silently from the shadows is the most un-Charlie thing. Was it because Lucifer was already nervous and insecure? Maybe. Was it because he didn't want to upset her again? Perhaps. But it was still so unlike her and I think the fact he was willing to go along with it is telling).
There was also THIS scene ⬇️
This guy can teleport and fly WHY is he skulking away? Why is he tip-toing in the background?
Lucifer was storming off pissed as hell.
There was the moment when Valentino and Velvette did their little stints, which he looked startled and annoyed by, but like??? If he was so mad and just wanted to leave, why would he decide to skirt around the rally instead of, i don't know, creating a portal? Flying off? He clearly had no intention of staying, and once he saw Charlie and knew she'd be angry (he had to have known, why else would he be trying not to get anyone attention), why not take the fastest escape route possible?
Okay, sure, flying might've got her attention, I hear you say. She, Emily and the others showed up right after this all went down and they probably would've seen him.
Fine, I can excuse that one.
But a portal? Yeah it's shiny and glittery but it would take only a few seconds to conjure and step through. All he had to do was step behind something taller than him (which wouldn't be hard to find) and poof! Gone!
There was literally no reason he had to still be there. Charlie would've found out about him regardless because Vox had pictures of him at the rally.
It felt so unnecessary and I was cringing from the second-hand embarrassment. I literally had to just pause the episode and put down my phone for a second. I still cringe just thinking about it.
And it also just felt very stupid on Lucifer's part. I cannot find the logic behind and his whole
"You do not see me. I am magical. I'm not here. You're dreaming. This is a dream... Bye."
This entire scene was painful to watch and all it did was make Lucifer look stupid for absolutely no reason.
2. Not acting like a parent
I know the natural assumption for this one is the scene where Lucifer only got up to help Charlie to one-up Alastor, which is part of it, but not the only reason.
Lucifer just...did not give me dad-vibes this season. He had all the dad-vibes in season 1, from earnestly wanting to reconnect with his daughter to acting condescending and dismissive.
His nervous bumbling in season 1 did feel like a insecure dad desperately wanting to reconnect with his kid through dialogue, actions, and tone.
His protectiveness:
"Razzle, Dazzle. Oh, look how much you haven't grown! Still fun-sized. You taking care of my whittle girl? You better be..."
Trying (and failing) to like how Charlie's hotel looks,
"Wow, this place sure looks, uh... Uh-huh. Yeah. Uh-huh. It's got a lot of character."
Pointing out the things they have "in common" (also the tried and true response to finding out your daughter has a girlfriend):
"Oh ho my golly! You like girls? So do I! We you have so much in common!"
Feigning consideration for what Charlie is talking about, even though he obviously disagrees
The way he feigns obliviousness to Charlie's entire redemption spiel and tries to avoid the topic
Charlie: So, once that's out of the way it should be much smoother sailing.
Lucifer: Well, that certainly is, uh... is-is something.
Charlie: So… what do you think?
Lucifer: About what?
Charlie: The hotel.
Lucifer: Oh yes, it does… it does look much better now, doesn't it? Ya know, but I'm thinking this railing needs work, one good push and you'd just go right over the edge! Whoopie, bye bye!
The I-know-what-I'm-talking-about-and-I'm-obviously-right parent voice, you guys know the one:
Lucifer: Alright, I mean, look…I love that you want to see the best in people, but these sinners…You know, they're just the worst. I, I don't know how much you can realistically expect from them in Heaven.
Lucifer: Our people Charlie, are awful! They got gifted free will and look what they did with it! Everything's terrible! I just don't want you to put yourself on the line for people like-—well, like that.
Lucifer: Ya see, thus is exaaactly what I'm talking about, Charlie. You build something nice, you invite people in and offer them everything and they just bring violence and chaos to your doorstep. It doesn't matter how well intentioned you are, they're always going to disappoint you.
Lucifer: Mhm, ya see? What I tell ya? Charlie, sinners are violent psychopaths, hell bent on causing as much pain and destruction as they can. There's really no point in trying. <- (this is all happening while Charlie is panicking and her hotel is being attacked btw)
Lucifer: Charlie! You don't understand. Heaven never listens. They didn't listen to me. They won't listen to you.
The protectiveness again:
Lucifer: I just don't want you to be crushed by them like-like I was.
The sheer softness and love in his expression (both of theirs honestly)
(Their ENTIRE song honestly)
His reluctance and concern for her going to Heaven, but pride and encouragement anyway:
Lucifer: Okay, I can get you the meeting, but once you're in Heaven, I won't be able to go with you. Will you be ok?
Charlie: I'll be fine.
Lucifer: That's my girl. Good luck kiddo.
His protectiveness again
Lucifer: YOU COME AT ME, AND MY DAUGHTER! DON'T FORGET, YOU'RE IN MY HOUSE, BITCH!
The way he comforts her
♪ Come on, little lady, why the frown? ♪
♪ In the last 10,000 years ♪
♪ You're the first one to change this town! ♪
♪ You can do this! Now I know it! ♪
♪ For your story has just begun! ♪
The sheer gentleness and love in his expression. The encouragement and pride. It's giving dad, ya'll.
And there was a time in season 2 where we got some of that again
The entire scene here when he gets Charlie away from the reporters and is encouraging her
Charlie: Wow. Thanks for the escape, Dad. Ugh, I don't know what's wrong with me.
Lucifer: Well, you know, your friend and your old hotel both kind of died, so I think you're allowed to be a little off, sweetheart.
Charlie: I miss her, too. But she'd be proud of me, you think?
Lucifer: Oh, honey. She'd be so proud of you. Are you kidding? At least, I'd hope so.
Lucifer: Hey, hey. Just take a deep breath, okay? The show must go on, Charlie. And you were born for this spotlight.
This is the only scene in season 2 that mirrors what we saw in season 1.
We went from all of THAT to Lucifer not giving a shit that Charlie is being harassed by Vox (and harassed is the word he uses) and hiding behind a goddamn couch because Charlie is mad at him
Are we being for real right now? Why the fuck is he cowering from Charlie? His daughter.
Why does HE look like a child being chastised. I get him feeling guilty, maybe even ashamed, and no ones enjoys being yelled at, but like??? Come on. Come on.
Has anyone's dad every acted like this when they're adult kid is mad at them? Can any of you imagine your dad shrinking away from you yelling at them? Is it just me? Am I the crazy one here?
Lucifer just...
He did not feel like much of a dad this season and him being a father is a big part of his character. The most he contributed to this season was being a battery to Vox's machine, other than that he kind of just felt like some random guy. Why does his hate boner for Alastor outweigh him wanting to help Charlie for the sole reason of helping her?
He hated Alastor in season 1, yes, but I never got the impression that his hate of Alastor would impact him more than his love for Charlie.
I still like Lucifer, I do, but there are a lot of things in season 2 that lessened him as a character for me. He felt more genuine and parental in season 1 and he sure as hell didn't act stupid. Silly, insecure, depressed, and prideful, yes. But not stupid.
Hopefully season 3 will bring him back up for me, but ngl I'm apprehensive of how he'll be written if season 2 is foreshadowing for what'll we be getting. Crossing my fingers though.

Alastor makes a little “hmph” sound, but starts unbuttoning his shirt with a little more speed. Forced speed, if the occasional fumble of his fingers is anything to go by. Lucifer decides not to comment on it out of the kindness of his heart (and because it tinges Alastor’s scent with a faint sour unease that makes his alpha prickle with vigilance, and commenting on it will probably only make it worse).
A calm omega is good, his instincts remind him. The pack is safe. A distressed omega is bad. It means something is wrong.
Little by little Alastor’s red shirt comes undone, revealing a long, slender neck, parts of his collarbones, a smooth, flat stomach, and a defined chest. A nice view, Lucifer will admit. What’s less nice about it is the long, ragged gash running from his left collarbone to the top of his right ribcage. The skin around it is rough, uneven, and dark with burn scars. Judging by the handful of green stitches doing their damndest to keep it together, Alastor tried patching himself up, but he’d only gotten so far.
Lucifer hisses through his teeth. “Yikes.”
“Is that your professional opinion?”
“Yeah, it is.” He leans closer to get a better look. “You said Adam did this to you? What the fuck did he hit you with?”
“His guitar.”
Lucifer raises an eyebrow. “A guitar did this?”
“It was also an axe,” Alastor sniffs, scent souring in offense. “Do you really think it’d do this much damage,” he gestures to his chest, “if it were just a guitar.”
“Okay, okay.”
“It also glowed gold, so it wasn’t a normal one either.”
“Alright.”
“And it could shoot white light.”
“Okay, sorry I asked. Geez.”
“I’m just saying, that light also disintegrated a warship, so I think I took it rather well.”
“Can I please go back too—wait, hold on.” He sat up, looping Alastor’s words back through his head. “Did he...okay, hold on, let me just,” Lucifer presses his hands together and tilts them at Alastor, “you’re telling me that Adam, Mr. Adam-The-First-Man, shot a direct line of holy light at you?”
Alastor shrugs. “Yes.”
“Mr. Adam, the arch-angel?”
Alastor stares back. “He was an arch-angel?”
Lucifer takes a deep breath through his nose, accidentally gets a massive whiff of Alastor’s pheromones (frazzled and sour), along with the metallic tinge of blood, and his alpha stiffens like a cat that’d been dipped in icy water. His face contorts into a grimace and for a moment all he can do stare at Alastor with his knitted fingers pressed against lips, flabbergasted as to why this motherfucker is still alive, while simultaneously grappling with the urge to seize him by the shoulders and demand to know what is wrong him with.

Weirdly enough, the only person I've seen mention this is Amir Talai, but in the case of Fem!Alastor: during his lifetime (early 20th century), monocles were a big women's fashion thing. It was a symbol of feminist counterculture, and particularly popular among flappers and lesbians.
Not as blatant as Angel wearing a skirt, but...

Why is no one else talking about this. His bobcut was a feminine hairstyle woman got as a sign of liberation and saying "fuck you" to beauty standard, and the monocle was popular among flappers and lesbians.
Not only that but speakeasy's were common queer spaces back then and he was definitely at a speakeasy in his backstory flashback considering this was during the Prohibition and there were both white and black people in that room and these were one of the few places they mingled together freely.
And he is so fucking gender fluid. The way he flows between masculine and feminine in both appearance and body-language is seamless. Like you said, its not as blatant as Angel wearing a skirt, but he in no way buys into traditional gender norms.
Also, considering he gets along with women so much more than men, idk why he would make himself a purely masculine figure especially in Hell where he can do whatever the fuck he wants and look however the fuck he wants.
(Also pointing out that Alastor has shown no signs of being homophobic and while being queer back then wasn't considered the norm or openly accepted, it was a lot more tolerated up until the Lavender Scare in the 1950's; AND the French Quarter also had its own queer communities around his time (it was also mostly inhabited by people of color). Also him telling Angel that having sex with him is "never going to happen," is not homophobia, that's not wanting to have sex with someone, and honestly falls more in line with him being asexual than anything else).
Alastor is a queer icon and I will die on this hill.
