Jake is such a fucking fascinating character, he really is. He's useless on one hand, because he *chooses* to be

But he's very competent!

I like the idea that, the older he gets (past the end of the comic and no I'm not talking about the epilogue), he becomes more comfortable with discomfort and maybe starts to feel more at home in his own skin

Whereas Dirk is just... a mess. Always lol I love him dearly, but he's a mess

It’s been a while since I read the comic so I could be misremembering (though I doubt it, I was taking notes and I’m always right) but Jake was never really lacking in confidence, the problem was it was fed by his relationship with Dirk, before during and after they dated, and it relied heavily on his ability to manipulate others.

What he needs is to be far from people, with his only connection to them being limited and on his terms. You’re right though, he isn’t comfortable with being uncomfortable, I don’t think he’d ever want to be at ease with it but I think he could pretend to be.

I like drawing Jake happy and sassy, I don’t exactly have his design down pat but I do enjoy every version of him, habit has me drawn towards his younger (20 something) version though so for simplicity sake I’ll say that, though my nonsense Ult Jake makes me blush

Or dirkjake disgustingly sweet with each other?

I think their level of sweetness is unnatural to those that grew up even semi normal, what is sweet and cute to them makes them freaks of nature among their peers.
