I'M GOING TO TRY THIS! I live in San Bernardino, California and last night, Saturday the 27th of July, I went to dinner and a movie. I've lost my wallet. It is a brown leather bifold with my Student ID and Driver's License in it. I believe I lost it around Regal Cinema 14 downtown on E and 6th. "Nope," Oz said, reclaiming some of his usual bravado and nonchalance.  He smiled at her.  "I don’t do that talking thing, you know that."  He just bottled up his problems and let them fester like little ball bearings in a pipe bomb ready to go off in his head.  "What should we watch?"
Irene sighed and let her arms fall back to her sides. Â For as long as she lived, she would never understand this man. Â But it was good to see the glimmer of the Oz she knew and loved, even if it meant that he was shutting her out.
"Something funny?" Â Her voice sounded far away and broken, but she did her best to return his smile.
She was there and she was hurting. What a pair they made because Oz just couldn't bring himself to fix it. Â He needed her to, which made him feel rather pathetic, to be honest. Â He wished he had done something before she left, something like wrap her up in his arms and tell her that he...what? Â Loved her? Â Couldn't function properly without her? Â His childhood, his past had left as emotionally stable as monsoon season. Â "Something funny works with me," he said.
Without allowing himself to think about it--thinking about it made him hesitate--he put an arm around her shoulders. Â "How about Zoolander?"

Looking at her for a long moment, Oz tried to think of the answer.  He knew it was there, there had to be something because…he shouldn’t have let himself get involved in the first place—he knew better.  Getting involved meant getting hurt and he hated to feel.  "Wanna go watch a movie with me?" he asked flatly.
She would have given anything to be able to read his mind.  The way he looked at her, the pain behind his eyes…and I put it there.  Irene shook off the thought, folding her arms over chest and hugging herself tightly, as if that would stop her heart from breaking.
The tone of his voice brought fresh tears to her eyes.  "Yes, darling.  I would love to watch a movie with you.  But…don’t you think we should…I don’t know, talk about this?"  She needed him to know that she never meant to hurt him.  That she’d die before she ever did it again.

She let out a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding, her eyes slipping closed as a small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.  For a second she thought…but then he uttered his usual reply, and it at once warmed her heart and yet made her a little sad.
"Don’t you dare apologize.  This isn’t your fault…I shouldn’t have left, I—" She sighed, averting her gaze.  "I screwed up.  And I don’t know how to make it better."
Looking at her for a long moment, Oz tried to think of the answer. Â He knew it was there, there had to be something because...he shouldn't have let himself get involved in the first place--he knew better. Â Getting involved meant getting hurt and he hated to feel. "Darling…no, I didn’t…I was only joking."  Her hand reached up to cup his face, eyes brimming with concern.  Maybe her absence had had a greater effect on him than she realized…"You know I love you…"

"Damn right it’s your job to fix it," he said, but his voice held no fire in it, just adoration.
Irene couldn’t stop the small laugh that escaped her as loving eyes scanned his face.  "To be honest, I wouldn’t know where to start," she teased.

"You’ve got me feeling feelings and shit," he muttered.  "I’m sorry…"
"Oh, my…Oz feeling things?  What have I done?"
"I'm a mess," he admitted, smiling despite himself.
"I…I haven’t really been okay…without you…"
"I’m…Oz, I’m so sorry…but I’m here now, darling.  Everything’s alright…"
