HIVEMIND.

        the  hargreeves  family  black  sheep.   as  easy  as  it  would  be  for  her  to  take  a  little  peep  into  her  mind  to  see  why  that  was,   sophie  knew  there  was  no  need.   she’s  simply  ordinary,  as  reginald  promptly  said  once  ------  and  that  was  the  end  of  it.   ❛    do  you  have  at  least  one  photo  in  this  place ?    ❜

        for  some  people,  it  must  be  both  a  blessing  and  a  curse  to  be  able  to  look  through  another  person’s  mind,  but  phoebe  begged  to  differ.   it  was  only  the  former  to  her.   ❛    ooh,  somebody’s  got  daddy  issues...  and  mommy  issues  too.    ❜   phoebe  pouts  at  her  mockingly  before  her  eyes  go  back  to  normal,  continuing  with,   ❛    looks  like  you  got  the  whole  package.    ❜

while  the  frosts  are  collectively  a  crafty,  manipulative  unit  hardened  from  being  experiments  and  trying  to  control  everything  in  their  lives  since  they  were  13,  there  are  certain  quirks  that  make  them  a  little  different  from  one  another.

PHOEBE  ---------  phoebe  talks  in  a  slightly  lower  pitch  and  is  the  meanest  of  the  frosts,  even  when  there  was  still  five  of  them.   she’s  a  lot  more  critical  than  the  rest  of  them  and  is  always  ready  to  push  buttons  at  any  given  moment,  having  a  lot  more  sass  and  bite  when  she  speaks.   her  usual  stance  is  with  one  hand  on  her  hip  or  her  arms  folded  across  her  chest.

SOPHIE  ---------  sophie  isn’t  as  snippy  as  phoebe  is,  though  she  does  tend  to  back  her  up  and  agree  with  her  more  than  she  does  with  esme.   her  voice  is  a  little  high  and  singsong-y  and  she’s  likely  the  most  amiable.   sophie  hangs  more  in  the  background  while  phoebe  or  esme  take  charge  (  or  fight  to  take  charge  )  but  she  can  take  the  spotlight  when  needed.   her  usual  stance  is  with  her  right  hand  holding on  to  her  left  wrist  in  front  of  her.

        hands  hover  by  her  navel  as  she  looks  at  him  skeptically,  head  tilted  slightly  to  the  left.   reginald  never  talked  about  his  children  in  the  time  she  and  her  sisters  knew  him,  but  esme  didn’t  think  they  had  to  ask  about  the  boy  in  the  courtyard  statue.   ❛    not  that  it’s  any  of  my  concern,  but  we  always  just  assumed  you  were...  dead.    ❜   a  beat,  and  then  ------   ❛    no  offense.    ❜

        esme  shoots  phoebe  a  warning  look  when  she  senses  the  snark  coming  up,  though  it  does  nothing  to  stop  the  retort  from  her  sister.   ❛    what  would  our  individual  names  matter,  anyway ?   it’s  not  like  you  can  tell  us  apart.    ❜   sophie  only  arches  a  brow  in  agreement  but  esme  has  to  roll  her  eyes  at  the  hostility.   apologetically,  she  says,    ❛    what  she  means  is  that  we’re  sort  of...  three  in  one.   there  is  no  “i”.    ❜   ---   ❛    only  “we.”    ❜

        a  trio  of  mona  lisa  smiles,  eyes  glowing  blue  for  a  second  before  esme  and  sophie  quip,   ❛    we  always  know  a  lot  more  than  we  let  on,  klaus.    ❜   ---   ❛    it’s  kind  of  our  thing.    ❜   the  name  rolls  off  her  tongue  easily  despite  this  being  the  first  time  esme’s  said  it  aloud.   reginald  only  used  numbers  the  one  time  he  mentioned  his  children,  but  the  girls  knew  the  name  beforehand.   they  didn’t  need  to  be  mind  readers  for  that,  what  with  all  the  framed  articles  and  figurines  around  the  academy.

        so  this  was  the  boy  whose  portrait  hung  over  the  fireplace.   sophie  didn’t  know  much  about  what  led  to  his  disappearance  (  or  anything  at  all,  really  ),  but  along  with  her  sisters,  she’d  always  just  assumed  he  was  a  cold  case  ------  up  until  today,  that  is.   ❛    i  suppose  the  term  “little  man”   really  does  live  up  to  its  meaning  when  it  comes  to  you,  huh ?    ❜

        ❛    there  are  very  few  minds  we  haven’t  been  in.    ❜   the  sentence  is  said  in  unison  along  with  the  synchronized  click  of  their  heels,  usual  stances  taken  once  a  few  feet  away:  sophie  with  her  right  wrist  over  her  left,  esme  with  her  arms  by  her  sides,  and  phoebe  with  a  hand  on  her  hip  as  she  adds,   ❛    but  don’t  worry,  we  don’t  dig  too  deep  ---  not  always,  anyway.    ❜
