GLOW-IN-THE-DARK CEMENT COULD TOTALLY CHANGE HOW WE LIGHT CITIES

After nine years of research, Dr. José Carlos Rubio has overcome this hurdle and figured out a way of altering the micro-structure of cement itself, eliminating the opaque crystalline byproducts of the normal production process that blocked phosphorescence.

When fully charged by exposure to light, Rubio’s cement can glow for up to 12 hours, and should retain this ability for about a century.

This German art student, Benjamin Harff, decided, for his exam at the Academy of Arts, to do something only slightly ambitious — to hand-illuminate and bind a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Silmarillion. It took him six months of work. He hand-illuminated the text which had been printed on his home Canon inkjet printer. He worked with a binder to assemble the resulting book.

If they want to emulate European matted styles they would let all their hair matt into a beaver tail (plica polonica) or only matt the hair above the forehead and cut/shave the rest (glibbe).

But they’re not doing that, they’re trying to imitate dreadlocks.
