it’s one thing for jake to absolutely DESPISE his partner, but it’s another thing for him to have to endure a sit down DINNER with the man. he’s honestly not sure why he’s been invited; he’s almost certain augustus believed him to be a NUISANCE more than a partner. which also happened to be a very mutually shared feeling – perhaps the only thing the two of them had in common.
jake sighs as he brings a heavy fist against the large door of the equally massive estate; just another reason for him to feel small next to his partner. jake’s aware of the existence of augustus’ daughter, although maybe a part of him had forgotten that it was likely for her to be joining them – with her living there and all. so when she answers the door, he’s momentarily caught off guard.
❛ uhm, hey – you must be daphne?? my name’s jake, jake riley. i’m your dad’s partner. ❜
daphne was used to having dinner with her parents & whatever person her father felt the need to impress that day - it was at least a weekly thing. anyone from politicians to simply wealthy members of the atlanta community, augustus greengrass was known for wining & dining with the best of them. however when she’d heard it was his new partner that’d be joining them, however, the blonde had to hide both disgust & confusion. her father hadn’t exactly hid his remarks about his new partner from his wife or daughters.
the knock caught her off guard - not because she wasn’t expecting it, but because she hadn’t planned on being the one to answer it. she took a moment to adjust her blouse & check herself in the nearby mirror ( presentation when meeting someone new was always important - even when it was someone not normally worth the time it took to adjust ) before opening the door. her green eyes quickly ( without bothering to be subtle ) took in the man that stood on their steps. he was better looking than she expected - her father’s comments had led her to believe he perhaps had a nose too big for his face, that one eye would drift farther to the right, or perhaps that there’d be hints of drool stains on his chin.
❝ partner is a bit of a strong word, don’t you think? ❞
she opened the door the rest of the way, so not to block his entrance. ❝ please, come in. my mother is in the kitchen, ❞ probably making sure whatever cook she’d hired this week hadn’t messed up dinner - she had a habit of hovering ❝ & my father is in his study. we weren’t exactly expecting you to actually be on time, so the family is a little dispersed throughout the house. ❞
