There’s a degree of apprehension from Madeleine, unable to simply allow Nora to kiss her as she should have. She had been receptive up until this exact moment, and now she wanted to run for the hills. Luckily, she could not. Even as she attempted to wiggle from the elder woman’s arms, lips were lowered and caught in a gesture that surprised her into pausing.
Their surroundings were quiet and close to private, yet the brunette felt no confidence with her present company. Hands weren’t held, not that she could have possibly mustered up the courage to ask Nora if it would be alright to do so. A taunt left her companion’s lips and the only logical response was to quiet her as soon as possible. Madeleine rose on the balls of her feet and silenced her tormentor with a passionately stubborn kiss.
Madeleine could feel Nora start to shift beside her she was going to run. Neither of them were skilled with bridging the gap between action and emotion. There was some surprise, however, that it wasn’t her trying to escape. The scientist shifted over, reaching for her elder companion as she clutched a sheet around herself. Dark hair cascaded down her shoulder onto Nora, who was not given another moment to move before she was kissed and laid upon.
She forbid tears from slipping down her cheeks, that was unprofessional. Relations ended often, and it was beyond her to mourn the loss of someone who would have rather been elsewhere. This time, Madeleine could not soothe Nora to stay. She wouldn’t try. The accompanying goodbye was an uncomfortable kiss and one that made her throat tighten enough to expel all of the tears resting precariously behind closed eyes.
It’s a cheek kiss this time something of regular occurrence. Her daughter is secured against her hip, gurgling and attempting to reach for her Aunt. Her mother, a tiny voice in her head corrects. Madeleine tries to ignore it. Andromeda isn’t far behind, lingering close as the brunette backed away from her welcoming gesture. The ring on her finger matches the one on the latter woman’s left hand. For a moment, both sisters are in view and the younger woman took a moment to consider just how she had lost one twin and found the other.
