I agree! I think Sonico is at her best when she has unique and fun outfits. Rather than just another "embarrassed that her tiny bikini is falling off" Sonico, I want more Sonicos like the mermaid or gnnie figures. (probably not the best examples due to how fanservicey the designs are)

I'm so excited for the Christmas Sonico figure to release soon... I only have the one Santa-hooded Alter 2014 Sonico for the season. Feels like it's been forever since we've gotten a new Christmas Sonico figure (to my recollection, the one from Vertex in 2017? I still haven't gotten my hands on it) -- much less not that many Sonico figs in general in a while. Seems like BiCute Bunnies is the only regular releases lately.
Hoping they don't push back the release on this new fig though, I'm very excited to see a fresh new high-quality Sonifig.
Since I'm talking about figures, is anyone here a MyFigureCollection user? Early last year there used to be a page for this very figure which I added to my "ordered" list, but less than a week later it was obliterated off the site. I even checked the site again now to link to he 2017 Santa Sonico I mentioned, and that page is down too...? Not sure where to go or how to get these pages back up, since I mostly use the site as a status tracker and database.
I preordered the left version because it was more expensive and I assumed that the tree-poncho and hat were removable as well as having an extra head piece to mimic the cheaper version (right). Love the complete version, but I love the roundness (?) of how Nico's head looks in the non-poncho verion and kinda wanted to display both styles for different times of year.... I hope this is the case lol

what the hell happened to the 2023 christmas sonico illustration? she looks all sorts of fucked up. I can't even believe mr. santa okayed this drawing, nevermind whoever is in charge of editing or PR for sonico's brand.
I don't really like the art direction in how some of Sonico's official art has been the past few years...
I assume mr. santa is just having fun with her art and exploring more shading styles and how to define forms, but it looks more... disjointed ? to me compared to his previous Sonico work, heck even his Pochaco art lately has been exemplary compared to the official Soni stuff.

With every new illustration and figure release of her, I am left thinking a lot about her progression through the years.
Sonico has by no means been created to be this prolific body-positive icon, but as we all know she was in truth the beginning of the anime waifu era where thicker and curvier bodies weren't as appreciated. So, she was made as a cute kinda mascot that was chubbier than your average stick-thin, no-ass anime girl for the time. Fast forward to 2022, and online age has fully embraced the thicc and fat. There are garage kits with chunky girls that have been popularized so much they get production deals with known companies. This is the time for Sonico and Pochaco to flourish, but... things only seem to be sparse.
Sonico still maintains some of her body fat, but looks more trim in her arms and legs now. Santa's illustrations of her have only gotten more streamlined, which is lovely as his art style improves. He had a moment through the late 2010s where he was more experimental with body fat, drawing Pochaco and other characters, focusing on displacement of thigh fat and knees. I noticed a lot of detail on how we would draw hands on larger characters and praised his attention to them.
It feels like there should be a natural progression here, where Sonico's body type should have gotten larger over the years but maintaining that social perspective of on-the-cusp of being fat/overweight while Pochaco is the more indulgent mascot with more to love. It feels like we should have gotten more Pochaco than ever, but she still has been untouched regarding her character, personality, and even fewer figures than before. Obviously I want more Sonico, but where the heck has Pochaco gone? Is she not as popular anymore to japanese fans? Sure we do get an occasional exclusive illustration from Santa at times, but they seem more made to complement Sonico illustrations.
Taruco was also introduced, but she seemed like a toe-dip into what Nitro+ could experiment with. She has the direct body type right in between Sonico and Pochaco, but she had no substance to go off of and got abandoned after a merch line. It felt like they gave up before even trying with her, which sucks. It was either go big or go home, and Pochaco already fulfilled that image with an already established surface-level character.
I really wish we had more to Sonico, Pochaco, and Taruco. Even if we forget about Taruco, Pochaco is still so in need of some substance. She's already endearing, but after SoniAni I felt so left in the dust with wanting more context with her narrative. Sonico has been keeping her popularity today as just the iconic pink-haired big T&A headphone babe, but the rest of her is left in the dust. Collabs for Racing Miku seem to be drawing consistent sales, but afaik there hasn't been much activity on FAV nor updates to Sonico.ch (likely due to vtubing being new and popular at the time).
There's not really a conclusion to this rambling, I just wanted to talk about it. I feel like maybe I've even said something like this before, but it's been on my mind a lot.
