Sergei nodded, paused, then shook his head.
"No," he said. He sat down beside the kid, sprawling his legs in front of him, and set his hands behind him to support himself. "I donāt have anywhere to be. I am justā¦here."
He sat a while in silence, then turned to Kazuki.
"Do youā¦want to talk?"
Kazuki was already on his feet (how he was sitting on the ground, he had no idea.Ā The vodka was the likely culprit.)Ā Ā He didn't like the idea of unloading on a stranger, but then again, Sergei seemed trustworthy.Ā
The Cossack also seemed to have an understanding of the war inside Kazuki's mind right now.Ā Ā To feel grief, or to feel rage.. that was the question of the Jaeger pilots.
Again, he worked to bury the negative feelings.Ā He was not ready to surrender to dark impulses... even though there was a voice in the back of his mind that excused the behavior.Ā
He took a peek at the dent in the wall and a loose grin threatened to conquer his blank expression.
Shaking his head, he typed, "I no have much to tell.Ā But I move now.Ā The hole in the wall is big.Ā Ā I do not want to get in trouble on my first week here."
Now he grinned, almost impulsively, at the idea what kind of reputation that would create for him.Ā Ā His hand sure did sting, though.Ā
"I tell you what kind of man Takahashi was, if you interested.Ā Maybe over a beer.Ā I go into Hong Kong now if you like to join."
Whatever you can actually make work, Anyone with anyone Thwack!
ER-VerseEddie let out a huge yowl when an unfamiliar hand clenched his rear.
He whipped around like an agitated arbok and grasped Eliseo by the hair, hissing, āWho the fuck do you think you are, asshole?āĀ Making sure both hands were deeply buried in Eliseoās hair, he lifted his leg back before bringing it forward with shattering force between the good doctorās legs.Ā The sound that followed brought a pleasurable smile to the attackerās lips.
Eddie released the man, who fell to the ground like concrete, before grumbling, āDonāt fucking touch me again.āĀ Ā Ā He then kicked a bit of sand onto the shivering body before taking an abrupt leave.
About two hours later, Eliseo managed to pry himself from the battle ground, shaking and gagging.Ā In a hoarse whisper, he whimpered, āThere was a kick me sign, thereā¦ā

Eddie stiffened at the unwelcome intrusion into his personal space.Ā A snarl rapidly distorted his expression as he whipped around, ready to attack whoever laid a hand on him.
"You okay, Billie?"Ā Eva mused, her stitched up hand covering her mouth.
Oh, right.Ā He was supposed to be friends with this girl.
Easing his shoulders, he sighed, āYou startled me, thatās all. ⦠And when ever was it okay to greet someone like that?ā
Eva smirked harder as she giggled, āOh⦠I guess thatās just how we girls do it back home.Ā How we say hello.ā
A sense of uneasiness whined in the pit of Eddieās stomach as he nodded, āGlad to know weāre close enough for you to feel comfortable greeting me like that,ā he watched as Evaās expression dropped just ever so slightly at the comment, but he chose to ignore it.Ā "I really should be going... I'll save you a spot at lunch."
And he turned to continue towards the hangar.
ā¦
Eva then turned to Sergei, who was nonchalantly leaning against one of the buildings, and grinned, āSo how long do you think it will take her to notice that ākick meā sign?ā

Thwack
ER-verse
Ezra let out a little squeal at the unexpected pat across the butt.Ā To be honest... it felt kinda nice.
He turned to glace back at Yuli before going, "Aw, hell, Yew-leh, what wuz that fer?"Ā Ā He continued to absently rub his behind before admitting, "I guess I'd return the fav'ur... but then I really don't want no trouble from Shea.Ā Y'all understand me?"
Yuli's pregnant belly brought him back to his senses, that he had his own pregnant wife at home.Ā
Time to deflect and make himself sound stupid again.
"... There was one of dem bugs on mah butt again, wuz there..."
Thwack!
Kazuki jerked and nearly stumbled his own feet from the unexpected shock that jolted his nerves.
He whirled around, again, nearly tripping on his shoelaces, to meet Carinaās amused grin.Ā She was laughing, her arms crossed against her diaphragm as she struggled to keep her face from turning red.
A rather pink flush occupying his cheekbones, his eyebrows knitted and he waved a warning finger at her.Ā It was as much as he could do, his mind was far too distracted by the unexpected stimulus to think his actions through properly.
After another few seconds, he managed to create a ātut tutā noise with his tongue.Ā
His other hand, sadly, rubbed his behind.
Because, Carina had a mean right hook.

Sergei knew nothing of the manās copilot, or of the history behind it, and he didnāt really want to. He sat down next to Kazuki, grunting a little as he did so, and set the bottle between his legs. At the mechanical comment, he looked over.
"Heh," he said. He looked at the bottle. "Yeah, it is. Ukrainian vodka. Good stuff."
He stared at the bottle for a bit longer, as though suddenly and randomly fascinated by the proof, and then set it on the ground. He sighed.
"You uh," he started again, valiantly. "Do you want to be alone?"
He certainly contemplated that for a bit... being alone did sound nice.Ā But, then again, he'd be by his lonesome to grapple with the weight of Takahashi's consequences.Ā
It didn't sound like a fair fight.
He also needed to be strong.Ā Tears and resentment weren't going to win over the people in this complex.
He had to set a good example.
But how?
Not begging for pity... was a start.
With stiff fingers, Kazuki wrote, "No.Ā Takahashi I am not surprise he die.Ā But so soon I was not prepared."
Damn, writing in English when his mind was reduced to jam was proving to be rather difficult.Ā That, and, that vodka sure wasn't helping any.
"If you have place to be, I be fine.Ā Thank you for seeing if I okay.Ā And for vodka."
"I think... with this time I will go into city."Ā With a rueful smile, he added, "I have feelings reporters will come for me to talk of Takahashi,Ā I better hide."

Sergei started and whirled around, utterly confused, like some dog who had had his tail pulled. When he saw the party responsible, he stared.
Tryn winked at him, then gave a few pelvic thrusts in his general direction.
"Uh," Sergei said. "Do I know you?"
((While I found her OOC behavior hilarious, Tryn was rather offended.))

Sergei had looked Death in the face a number of times in his life, both when she came for him and when she came for others, and he knew the look well. Kazuki had it all over his face. He passed the bottle to the man without a word, watched him drink, and then took it back. Not too much there, buddy.
That must have been his partner in that Jaeger, his old partner. He tried to think of what would happen if he watched his partner die, Kateryna, paired with some other pilot and running another machine. The thought made him shudder.
"I amā¦.sorry," he said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "For this."
Even if he could speak, nothing of interest would have been said.Ā Unless if incoherent babbling was the poison Sergei's ears would pick.
Letting the liquid blister down his throat, Kazuki forced his shoulders to relax in an attempt to subdue his pacing mind.Ā Ā It functioned like a caged animal, rattling the bars and hissing out choice tidbits in response to the unwanted stimulus.
He would have liked to have said Takahashi deserved his demise, but a stronger sense of judgement quashed the idea.Ā Ā Years of dabbling in the drift allowed him to read his co-pilot like a book.
Prone to pride and jealousy, Takahashi was the second son of a wealthy business owner and pined to take over the family business.Ā Ā Ā However, even after his older brother brought shame to the family name, the father trusted the company over to his little sister.
His father thought Takahashi wasn't serious enough nor strong enough to swallow the harsh constitution of business life.
That reprehensible decision brought him shame.
So he turned to the glory of the Jaeger forces - hoping to smear his face around the televisions within Japan to show his father... something.Ā Anything.Ā He wanted to be the good son... and quickly lost himself in the lustful grasp of fame and fortune.
Kazuki understood him, and why he was quick to blame every mishap on someone else.Ā Ā He still wasn't over losing the reigns to his father's business.
... And that made Kazuki feel justified in watching over him, especially when the bloodlust of endless kaiju battles made his mind rattle from rage.
But he didn't die because he had no one to look after him now.Ā His immaturity cost him his life, Kazuki was just lucky to not have been there to witness it first hand.Ā Ā So, there was no excuse to be surprised.
Yet, here he was, allowing the bitter vodka to drill holes in his esphacus.Ā
Quietly palming his Speak3asy, he wrote, "Shit.Ā It strong."Ā
Takahashi may be dead now, but he wasn't going to repeat the same mistakes that he had.Ā That chapter may have closed a lot quicker than expected, but it was a chapter he was eager to end.

Sergei watched Kazuki leave the room, vodka still in hand, and flinched as the younger man punched the wall. He hesitated, then followed.
"Kazuki?" he asked, chancing a glimpse back at the screen where the kaiju was tearing through the outer steel armour of the Jaeger like tin foil. "Are youā¦good?"
He looked down at the vodka, then offered the bottle to him.
"Would you like a drink?" he asked, as though this were clearly the solution to Kazukiās problem.
Good.
Sergei wanted to know if he was.... good.Ā The motion made nausea bubble throughout his innards.
He had just watched his partner die on screen.Ā Years of chasing rabbits and tendrils of memories through countless neural handshakes now left an odd, yet gaping, hole in his conscious.Ā
And somehow he was meant to be positive about it?
A faint buzz of finality rustled alongside the new knowledge that the man who one filled his head with such incongruous and arrogant thoughts was now dead.
His hand unclenched and fell, defeated, to his side.Ā Fingers brushing gently against the fabric of his jeans, he pressed his forehead against the wall and clenched his jaw in preparation for the second wave of emotions to hit.
Takashi was stupid enough to get himself killed the moment Kazuki wasn't there to watch over him.
And, God, whoever that may be, did he blame himself.
Eyeing the vodka warily, knowing the full consequence of what happened to those who chose to drink their problems away, he grasped the bottle and allowed himself to escape the moment.

Sergei frowned slightly as Kazuki bobbed his head to excuse himself and shouldered his way to the TV. He looked on at the carnage on the screen, wincing slightly as he saw the machine break in half, and with the resilience of the Cossacks since the dawn of time, saw this as a good opportunity to go get his vodka. He pushed through the crowd, procured the bottle (untouched, thank God), and was about to go find Kazuki again when he saw the kid running to the exit.
Sergei paused.
"Hey, uh," he said, holding the bottle up and heading after him. "Where are you going?"

Kazukiās ears were fine tuned to the unusual rant.Ā Never had he heard such an inexorable screed against the Russians.Ā His eyes widened as he was forced to swallow more historical horror than he had bargained forā¦
ā¦until he heard the television and his head snapped up.Ā
His hearing clogged after that as he quickly bobbled his head in apology before pointing to the TV.
It wasnāt the soccer match that caused the crowd to swell in excitement.
The Ikatteiru Shin, Kazukiās old Jaeger and co-pilot, was fighting a category 3 Kaiju.
Sergei barely even noticed the shift in tone of the crowd until he found Kazuki wasnāt listening to him anymore, and his diatribe about Catherine āthe so-called Greatā slowed to a stop. He looked over at the TV. He paused.
There was a fight going on. Kaiju, big, category 3 probably, and a Japanese Jaeger. Sergei recognised it as one he had seen on television before: Ikatteiru Shin. It took him another moment to remember the pilotsā names.
"Hey," he said, gesturing at the screen with the flat of his hand. "Isnāt that your Jaeger?"
Kazuki pushed his way through the crowd, struggling against the war-torn bodies that blocked his path.Ā Everyone felt the same to him.Ā Hard muscle.Ā Lingering sadness.Ā Hidden fear.Ā The only problem he faced was their unwillingness to move.
Finally, he shouldered past, just as the Ikatteiru Shin suffered a nasty bite to the arm.Ā Kazuki couldn't help but place his palm against his mouth, his eyes wild with the memories of piloting that same arm.
Memories seeped his vision, every gut wrenching moment bringing him back to the time he and Takahashi called each other friend.Ā Partner.
Dread poured into his stomach as the Ikatteiru Shin's arm ripped free, exposing the vulnerable pilots.Ā
He could taste their pain as the excited journalist continued to narrate the horrifying events.
Someone was speaking to him.
His ears numbed against the world.Ā He could only hear his heartbeat... and the faint memories of Takahashi gasping the first time they fought a Kaiju.
He gulped despite the desert within his mouth.Ā He knew Takahashi.
He understood how unraveled the pilot would be.
How arrogant he was.
To have lost a Jaeger's arm.
And his poor co-pilot.Ā Takahashi would focus the blame upon him and --
Kazuki ducked his head as the Kaiju closed in, tearing its teeth into the cockpit.
His ears refused to drink in the noises of the room.Ā His mind was already afire with raw emotion.
Incapable of breath, his feet moved toward the exit, drumming against the tandem of shouts and cries of the riveted audience.

Sergei was just about ready to clap this young lad on the shoulder, say ānice to meet youā, and head on his merry way forward to procure that bottle of vodka, when Kazuki dropped his questions. Oh, of all the questions he could have asked, it had to be that one.
Time seemed to slow down for a moment. Sergei took a breath. He put a hand on Kazukiās shoulder.
"I am Ukrainian," he said, putting his other hand over his heart, which was currently overflowing with national pride and the spirit of the free steppe. "A Cossack. My people, the Russians have made us to their slaves. For hundreds of years, since Peter the First, he is taking us from our homes and bringing us to where ever he wishes us to fight, when only we wished to be free men and hold our own council and do things as we wished. The Russians, they only wish to take Ukraine, to take away our land from us and to say we are Russians! They come into our country to fight us! They try to intimidate us with their president, their laws! Try to tell us what we can and canāt do! They wish it was the Soviet times again, when they could do what they want in our country!"
People looked over at him, but Sergei wasnāt paying attention. Fired with the spirit of the unjustly-handled Ukrainian Cossacks, he continued his semi-historical rant with a passion that made up for his clearly skewed view of Eastern European national dealings.
