Harper paused, internally smacking their own forehead. “Right.” Harper’s ears burned, and they could feel their cheeks getting just a bit redder. “Right! Well, um.” They paused, trying to search for a question to ask to cover up the fact that they’d been thinking of Aryan practically nonstop since their… trip to his office. “Well it’s my birthday, so I was… wondering if maybe you’d be interested in coming out with me? To celebrate?” Harper fidgeted, sweeping some hair over their shoulder but standing their ground.

Harper outright laughed, covering their mouth with their hand as they allowed Aryan to lift the bag away. “I suppose helping me carry them is all I’m going to get. It was worth a shot, though.” Harper shook their head, smiling up at Aryan. “I can’t believe I’m going to help you re-work your curriculum and you won’t even help me mark essays!” They joked, pouting playfully. “C’mon, then, if I’m going to help you I need to see what I’m working with.” Harper took hold of Aryan’s hand without thinking, walking toward his office and tugging Aryan along.

Harper had absolutely no reason to be thinking about their ex as often as they were. It wasn’t like Aryan had been being particularly romantic or anything, but Harper couldn’t help but feel their heart skip up to their throat whenever he was around lately. Of course, as Harper’s thoughts drifted to Aryan again, they rounded a corner and there he was! Embarrassed, Harper could feel the color rising to their cheeks. “Oh! Um, Aryan! Funny running into you… here! I was just thinking about y–” Harper cut themself off before clearing their throat and continuing. “I was just thinking about something I had to ask you.”

Well that was a reaction. Harper bit down on the inside of their lower lip before eyeing Aryan. The head tilt made Harper raise their brows, grinning back. Harper tilted their head as well, squinting up at Aryan a bit. “Only if you don’t mind helping me, too.” Harper said, gesturing to their messenger bag full of student assignments.

“ having trouble with students again are we? ” he asked, lowering his copy of the daily prophet to give his colleague a proper look. “ say, that’s NOT a bad idea though. ”

“Well uh… my cat peed on my essay, I SWEAR TO MERLIN!“ Nathaniel raised both of his hands up in defence, looking directly into Professor’s eyes. 

Harper definitely noticed the attentive look on Aryan’s face, but chose to mostly ignore it in favor of their conversation. They did however, sweep a stray lock of hair behind their ear, wondering if Aryan would notice that, too. “I am so sorry I suggested it.” Harper laughed at the thought of Aryan having to grade things that had penises doodled on them. “I’ll help you come up with something aside from essays or actual potions.”

“Aw come on! Let the kids live a little mate!” Jonathan rolled his eyes playfully, shaking his head. “Who cares about essays when there are so many BETTER things going on right now? Did you have fun during Halloween?”

“But Professor, I solemnly SWEAR to you that the giant squid most definitely DID eat my homework. Honestly…at this point I suppose you’ve heard every excuse in the book. Or is it all just the giant squid or blaming it on the poor house elves?”

Zach couldn’t help but laugh as he handed over his own essay to his professor. “That’s funny. Who came up with that tired out excuse this time?” He asked, just out of curiosity. “It’s like when people in the muggle world say that their dog ate it. So stupid.”

“Okay but to be fair, when we were in Hogwarts the ‘Giant Squid Ate My Homework’ excuse was the go to!” Harper laughed again, moving to pull their hair up into a bun to get it out of the way. “I’m not saying they should have to make potions outside of class, but what if you had them do a visual thing? Like instead of essays they could illustrate the processes of a few potions? Something to demonstrate they understand the material without just regurgitating information from the text book?”

“That’s sad on behalf of the giant squid! Not getting a nutritious meal and all, I don’t suppose our parchment would be appetizing.” A brow arched after a moment of thought. “Was that sarcasm? I’m sure everyone was just…excited about Halloween.” Holidays and Quidditch games were two things that tend to distract the student body from academics. 

“I had someone tell me the Whomping Willow destroyed their textbooks.” Harper said seriously with a shake of their head. They laughed shortly after, though, running a hand through their hair. “Honestly, we should just try to find a better way to give homework, as clearly, essays aren’t working.”

idk i haven’t really thought about this shit so i‘m making it up as i go along but tbh he’ll probs be a lot like ravi from izombie knowing me bc I LOVE RAVI SO MUCH

he was a ravenclaw and probs pretty nerdy and that annoying kid everyone hates bc they’re good at everything??? he was like snape and liked to experiment with potions and shit and tried to invent his own and probs ended up almost blowing up the dungeons far too many times

when he left hogwarts he moved to america because he heard it’s pretty good there and everyone loves a good british accent. idk what he did there but he probs had a lot of fun 

eventually he ran out of money and was like “oh shit i’d better get a job” so he ended up being a teacher at ilvermorny and taught potions for a few years

buuuuuuuuuuut he had to leave bc both his parents got sick with dragonpox or something and they ended up dying within days of each other so he was v. sad. he didn’t want to move back to america again so he got a teaching job at hogwarts instead and there he has remained to this day

random facts time: he’s probs a good boy and doesn’t drink much/smoke/take drugs but this one time he went out to the hogs head with a few teacher pals and got drunk af and that was the last time bc SOMEONE SOMEWHERE OUT THERE HAS HIM DRUNK ON THEIR SNAPCHAT STORY

really likes cats but is allergic to them so he’s basically dying all the time with the amount of damn cats around the school so HEY maybe that’s why he’s grumpy bc he can’t pet all these cats :/

he’s probably invented a potion but i’m not really sure yet so i’ll come back to you on that one
