New Book Club---preliminary jib!! !! Zachary Thompson is helping to organize (and will be informally hosting) a new Book Club with much-beloved Hamilton institution The Mulberry Coffeehouse, as of May 2017. The first Book Club meeting will be held at the Mulberry on Tuesday, May 30 from 7pm - 9pm. We will be reading Jamie Tennant's fantastic new novel The Captain of Kinnoull Hill, a book which everyone involved is very excited about. Jamie Tennant himself will be in attendance the night of the meeting, to give a reading from the book and engage in an open, conversational discussion with the attending readers. Hope to see you there on May 30!! In the meantime, you can pick up a copy of The Captain of Kinnoull Hill at local booksellers Epic Books (on Locke street) and JH Gordon Books (King and Wellington). Both sellers will be offering a 15% off discount on the book as of May 1st. Also note: Marnie Woodrow is already scheduled to be the guest writer for the Book Club's second meeting (Tues June 27)---Marnie will be there to discuss her beautiful and widely acclaimed new novel Heyday. The Art of Fiction is alive and well in Hamilton, Ontario. The Mulberry Coffeehouse will be the perfect venue to showcase all this burgeoning literary talent, and Zachary Thompson is extremely pleased and humbled to have the opportunity to play such an integral part in fun, enlightening and exciting new monthly event. 15/04/2017

Totally enamoured with #PHOEBEWANG ’s beautiful new book of poetry #ADMISSIONREQUIREMENTS. Shades of the “language poets” in terms of abstraction but maintains clear moral and political messages throughout. Was lucky enough to catch her lovely reading at #LITLIVE last Sunday and then grabbed the book from #BRYANPRINCEBOOKSELLERS today via the Hamilton #GRITLIT festival. Grab it yourself if you get a chance and bask in its tranquil inevitability.

BOOK CLUB ALERT Zachary Thompson is currently helping to coordinate the Cafe Augusta Book Club in Hamilton, ON. The Book Club meets once a month and Zachary acts in a kind of host/facilitator role, leading group discussion and asking questions of the author (if author is present).  Last month Zachary sat down with Hamilton author Gary Barwin for a discussion of his acclaimed, Giller-nominated novel Yiddish For Pirates. This month he will be graced by the presence of local Hamiltonian titan Krista Foss to talk about her fantastic novel Smoke River.  Cafe Augusta is located on James Street South & Augusta, across from the Hamilton GO Centre. This month’s meeting for Krista Foss/Smoke River will occur at 7pm on Monday, February 27th. Please attend!! Attendance at the Book Club supports both local businesses like the Cafe, as well as local authors like Gary Barwin and Krista Foss. The Hamilton literary community is an ever-growing, ever-developing, always-very-much-alive entity, and in assisting Cafe Augusta with this Book Club Zachary is hoping to bring the readers of Hamilton a little closer to their favourite local authors, which is to say, a littler further inside their favourite local books, as well as spreading awareness and praise for Hamiltonian authors who readers may not yet be familiar with.  Hope to see you there on Feb 27!!!!!!!

Zachary Thompson will be participating at the Lit Live Reading Series, as an Emerging Writer, on Sunday, November 6th at 7:30. The event will be held at the Staircase Theatre in Hamilton, Ontario. He will be reading an excerpt from his forthcoming novel The Wrong People.  More details to come. 

Zachary Thompson is a writer living in Hamilton, Ontario. He is a graduate of both the English Literature program at York University (Toronto) as well as the Creative Writing program at the University of Toronto School of Continuing Education. He is currently working on a novel, tentatively titled The Wrong People.  This site is currently under construction.
