Material components, the second
In a world where diamonds can be used to bring people back to life, what would happen to diamonds?
Would the state/the church take all of them, only giving them out for emergencies like national heroes being killed or nobles being assassinated?
Would diamonds become more and more rare because they keep being consumed?
What would a diamond worth a specific amount even be like? If it can be used to bring people back to life, that would increase the value by a lot so I imagine most gems being really tiny, just the right size for the specific spells. Remember, it’s not a shiny rock worth 500 gold. It’s the possibility to bring someone back to life.
It’s not a bad RPG idea or strictly related, but in a world where diamonds can literally raise the dead, giving your partner a diamond ring for a wedding suddenly becomes a much more meaningful thing.
And does the fluctuating worth of diamonds cause the physical amount to change? Like if the price of diamonds was super inflated does that mean that a small sliver or tiny gem could do? Because if so then the diamond industry could do a favor to everyone by making the price of diamonds skyrocket.

I imagine that access to diamonds would be strictly controlled. Only those they consider valuable to be brought back would have access. I’d also imagine that this would create black market for diamonds and fabricated diamonds. Fabricated diamonds would work but would have a chance to not work. Also I imagine that anyone who figures out how to make true diamonds, via magic or alchemy, would be silenced by the state/church.
I feel that size would be less of an obstacle seeing as in this scenario the actual value of a diamond would be their use in spells that bring the dead back rather than an actual monetary value. You could have a monetary value, but that would only be how much worth someone attaches to being able to bring someone back to life.
Consider for a moment that it turns out that the diamond isn’t as important as people thought- it was the carbon content and the amount of energy stored in the crystal. Overnight, the value of diamonds depreciates while magically purified coal and graphite skyrockets. Sure, it takes pounds and pounds of the other stuff to substitute for diamond, but when you have Fantasy West Virginia to draw from, resurrection becomes a lot more common- especially amount the miners themselves.
