saw a fancam of a fansign and now I'm wondering if it ever gets hard for idols to turn off fanservice mode. bc so much of that job is basically emotional manipulation and performative communication and it has to be so tempting to fall back on these skills when faced with real conflict. to deescalate instead of investing emotions and risking hurt feelings. especially in a romantic relationship, since those tend to be more performative than platonic connections, at least in the early stages (and they resemble the fan-idol dynamic a little more.)
do they ever switch into Idol Mode when they're stressed because it offers them more distance? Because I can't picture a way to do that job without dissociating the fuck out but then again that's hard to do when a lot of it is so physical and you have to be very present in your body.
this is why I so desperately need some former super star idols to write biographies (and for them to get translated).
