Air rushed up against his body, cold and wet and shocking and Tobio opened his eyes wide, surprised. It was completely dark, but he was awake, and -for some reason- falling.
A small light was growing far below him, confirming his suspicions. Soon, warm candle light enveloped him, and Tobio tumbled onto a giant red cushion. Wincing, he rolled onto his back and stared, aghast, through a giant hole in the ceiling.Â
"Where am I?"
As soon as those words left Tobioâs mouth, loud, rapid knocking could be heard behind him. He turned, mouth still wide open, to see a large mirror lying on the crimson ground behind him. Cautiously, he made his way towards it.
As Tobio did, he noticed that there wasnât a single spot on the roomâs walls that wasnât covered by a mirror. And the more his vision adjusted to the bright lighting, he realized the cushion itself was the seat of a giant throne. He shuddered, to think what would happen if its king came to sit.
Upon reaching the source of the racket, Tobio sat in front of the mirror. Hesitantly, he picked it up, holding it before his face.Â
"U-um, whoâs there?"Â
When he wakes up, it is with an uncomfortable pulling, jerking feeling, as if he'd been yanked right into reality and away from the land of dreams.
Except the landscape that stretches before his sleep-weighed eyes are less like reality and more like dreams, dappled in all sorts of whimsical colors. He's dazed and, apparently, on some-- floor.
It's not uncomfortable-- in fact, the floor seems to be-- well. Plush. Is he dreaming? He pinches his cheek to make sure.Â
They hurt.
Looking around, he realizes that the walls are covered with mirrors, and he can actually hear someone, talking to him. He crawls closer to one of the mirrors, the one he's fairly sure he heard it from, and says right back:
"Is anyone there...? I'm just a middle school kid! I don't know why I'm here."
(princetoss) for the christmas meme thing, â
Our muses go ice skating together.
Living in the Touhoku region, there were certain things that Oikawa took for granted. Like people who grow up alongside the sea assume that everyone learns to swim as a child, living in a region of chilly winters bred in Oikawa the assumption that ice skating was basic knowledge. It was, apparently, not.
Oikawa trailed his fingertips along the low barrier that separated the man-made ice rink from the rest of the park, a grin on his lips that boasted of unvoiced bliss. âSo youâre telling me, Tobio-chan,â he asked, and that happiness found its outlet as he spoke. âThat you donât know how to ice skate?â His cheer was almost palpable as the brunet grinned at his former underclassman who balanced carefully on the ice.
It had been nearly a year since Oikawa had last seen the now second-year. Oikawa didnât regret the time or the distance. He knew that he needed them, knew that both had helped him to recover, to calm down, to breathe⌠The fact that he found Kageyama on the ice, rather than on the court, was certainly another helpful factor.
âWell, well. If you ask nicely, perhaps the great Oikawa can spare some time to help.â
He walks quietly down the road, trudging through the snow on his way home.
It's his fourteenth birthday, and nobody has said anything to him.
That's fine, he thinks; he does not care.Â
He doesn't need birthday wishes from anyone.

Kei gave the small kid a once over he hurried over. At a good 20Â cm shorter than him, Kei felt that this brat should not be able to hit a volleyball that hard. His head throbbed, but it was slowly fading anyway. The other was panicking, his voice still high and childish.Â
"Sorry, Iâm sorry! I didnât mean to, are you okayâŚ?"
Kei sighed, deciding this little brat wasnât worth the trouble. His eyes shone of innocence, purity that Kei had seen once, a long time ago.
A long time ago, when I looked in a mirror. When I looked at Akiteru.
The blonde high schooler reached down to pick up the volleyball. He handed it back to the child, rubbing his head.
"I know you didnât mean to. If you did, Iâll make sure you wouldnât be able to play volleyball ever again," He paused to rub his head, "Iâm fine."
He looked around the park, suddenly aware of the late time and how empty it was. Was this kid alone?
"How come youâre practicing alone? Itâs getting late and youâre not going to get any better with how youâre doing now. Did anyone come with you?"
He's going to hit me, probably. Or yell at me.
Tobio is one hundred and ten percent sure that he was dead, that he was done for. He grips onto his ball a little tighter than he should when he gets it back, and shifts his weight from one foot to another, but at the other's reassurance he relaxes, even though only slightly.
"Um." he begins, still a little rattled due to his less-than-pleasant encounter with the high-schooler, "I usually practice alone, yeah. I don't really have anyone to practice with, because they don't want to stay as long as I do. So I usually play here, in this park."
(There's usually no-one too, so I don't end up hitting people, and I don't know why you passed by is what he doesn't say.)

â-        "Are you sure thatâs all you wantâŚ?" Hinata asked; head tilting to the side. When he occasionally took care of other people when they were sick, they all wanted food and some water. Placing his arms behind his back; brow eyes lingered on the other male before the ground.        âAre you sure you donât want food? Cause I could grad you a package of salted top crackers.â Crackers were one of the safest foods Hinata could think of off the bat; due to eating them when he came down sick.Â
Tobio is about to turn down the other teenager's offer when he hears, quite audibly, his stomach growl and grumble in protest. He hasn't been eating at all, thanks to a throat that cries in pain every time he so much as swallows his own saliva.
Maybe he could use some food. He relents, and nods.
"I guess salted top crackers sound okay." he croaks.
Focused as he was to finish cleaning up the leftover blood, Kageyamaâs voice snapped him out of it, the small statement making him flinch a little before looking up. Brown eyes let themselves focus, the word âInfirmaryâ printed on the sign right above the door.
A sigh escaped himâhis number of visits to said room did nothing to make the trip any less unpleasing for him every time. Still, he reached out a hand, opening the door whilst announcing his arrival. The face that greeted him had âAgain?â written all over her face.
  Yeah.
âNow, now, Oukuchi-san. This time I wasnât the cause of my current injury.â A pause. âI brought someone with me.â
The wordless exchange between Oikawa and the nurse flew right over his head. The younger setter remains completely oblivious, not understanding the looks they were giving each other.
"Um, actually, I kind of bumped a ball into his nose--" he pauses, stealing a glance at the nurse's nametag-- "Oukuchi-san. It's not his fault."
He hangs back behind Oikawa, waiting for the nurse to do whatever it is she has to with the older setter.

â-       That made sense; being sick you barely ate. Hinata knew that all too well; thanks to how many times the orange haired male got sick back in grade school. Brown eyes looking at anything that in the room. Twiddling thumbs; brown eyes drifted back to the raven haired male under the mound of blankets.        âDo you want some..? or at least some water..?â Speaking up as he ran a hand through his orange hair. Hinata figured heâd ask since the raven haired boy looks as white as a sheet.        Keeping his brown eyes locked onto the boy under the blankets, Hinata begane to twiddle his thumbs once again; awaiting a respond from the other.Â
Who is this person, really? Tobio doesn't recognize this person by voice, either. He cracks one eye open a bit wider, trying to see who it is. The first thing he notices is a mop of orange hair. He doesn't remember anyone with orange hair.
But they're really kind, offering him things and whatnot...
"Maybe water." He murmurs, coughing once. He's really, really hungry, but he doesn't want to eat.
A sigh escaped him, shaky. It was like for every word that escaped the other boyâs lips, the more irritated Oikawa got. He wondered if it was really a good idea to bring Kageyama with him.
Head turning, he stopped walking to give the packet of tissues in Kageyamaâs hand a glance before taking it. Sticking his tongue out for a quick moment, he resumed his walk towards the infirmary.
Oikawa took the packet of tissues.
The action makes Kageyama's face brighten considerably. He's not smiling, but the cloud lifts from his face and his steps are lighter.
He doesn't say anything more, because he doesn't want to tip the already precarious equilibrium back to the side where he's feeling crushed under guilt and awkwardness.Â
But if he was only tailing Oikawa before, he's now walking right beside Oikawa, even if he's not looking at Oikawa.
"I think we're here." is the next thing he says.
He was walking down the same road, past the same park, for the seventeenth time. Every single day, Kei walked this path back home. Alone.
He had noticed the small middle schooler play with the old volleyball in the park before. Even though he had at first noticed because it was volleyball, his interest level had diminished over the days.
Thunk.
Something round and hard and very much like a volleyball thudded into his head with impressive force. Kei staggered forward a bit, before turning around slowly to face the perpetrator.Â
"Oi, brat, watch what youâre doing with that ball. At least hit it to a target or something, then you wont crack peopleâs skulls by accident."
He needs to get better at bumping, probably.
--No, definitely.
Of all the people he could hit, he hit a person who must be a high schooler, a grumpy one at that. He's so screwed, so screwed, so very screwed. The other was really tall, too... Tobio has got absolutely nothing on this person. If he tried to run, the stranger would catch up to him immediately...
"Sorry, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to, are you okay...?"

"When was the last time you ate?"
illness themed rp starters
The poor raven-haired boy looks even smaller than he already does, swathed in thick blankets.Â
Itâs a little hard to see; his eyes are almost impossibly photosensitive and he cannot open them wider than a small crack, so he canât quite make out who it is thatâs standing in front of him.
His throat hurts, and he really doesnât want to speak more than necessary, but regardless he forces the words out of his mouth because ignoring this person would be impolite.
"âŚI donât remember."
His hands twitched at that, balling into fists. They stayed by his sides, however shaking, only to snort at Kageyamaâs apology. He didnât even bother to look back when he said, âSave that for when the nurse blames me for the blood thatâs dripping down my nose right now.â
The last time it happened was his fault, but he wasnât going to take the blame for something he didnât even see coming.
Tobio flinches a little at the cold answer. A mixture of guilt and fear sets into him, and he bites the insides of his cheeks. He goes through the pockets of his jacket, and pulls out a pack of tissues.
"Have some...?" he offers, sounding uncertain.

"When is the last time you ate?"
"Let me get you a glass of water."
"You can lay down in my bed if you need to."
"Don't cry, you're going to be fine."
"You're safe, I've got you."
"You're fever's too high, you're delirious."
"Sleep it off."
"Can I get you anything?"
"Here, vomit in this."
"You've been out for days. I was worried you were dead."
"When is the last time you slept?"
"How bad does your stomach hurt?"
"How long have you had that cough?"
"Hold on. You're too sick to go anywhere."
"I'll get you a blanket, you're going to be here for a while."
"Let's go home, you're too sick."
"I can do that, just go back to bed."
"Maybe you should go to the doctor."
"Come on, at least sleep in a bed."

"Its okay, I'm here."
"I'm not going to leave you."
"Everything is okay."
"I'm going to protect you."
"I believe in you."
"Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that."
"You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now."
"You're not going to lose me."
"I love you."
"I'll stay right here, okay?"
"Just breathe."
"I'm okay, you're okay, we're okay."
"You're everything to me."
"I don't care what they think, to me, you are perfect."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"You don't have to be alone."
Oikawa considered declining the other boyâs offer, having no confidence in starting up a conversation on the way there without it getting awkward. Butâ âTake responsibility if the nurse nags at me about this,â he said, already on his way out of the gymnasium and towards the infirmary.
He nods, and quietly falls into step behind Oikawa. All the way there, he doesn't dare look at Oikawa. He feels like he's going to be inevitably yelled at, or something like that.
Maybe when they're away from people...
"...Sorry, Oikawa-san." He repeats, again, voice small. "I didn't mean to."

He fell silent for a bit at that, wondering if it was even necessary to do so. Oikawa opened his mouth to decline only to be interrupted by a teammate that his nose was bleeding.
   Great.
Reaching up, he reached his fingers just above his lip, retracting it to see that there was indeed crimson tainting his digits. A sigh escaped him.
âWell, this means I do need to go to the infirmary.â
He folds a little into himself, shifting from one foot to another. He's really messed up. Oh no. Is Oikawa-senpai mad? He certainly looks annoyed... Why did the ball had to stray there?
"Should I go with you?" he offers. It's a lame consolation, he knows, but that's better than nothing. "I mean, I, um. Hit you with the ball, so."
âI got hit in the face with a volleyball, Tobio-chan.â There was a pause as he proceeded to point at his face, slightly red from the impact. âDo I look okay to you?â
"N-no." He murmurs, his voice going quiet. Crap. He's in trouble, he's totally in trouble. "Um, do you need to maybe go to the nurse, then...?"Â
How does he fix this, oh my god.
