When will my life begin?

“Of course!  You know how introspective I am!” No, no she does not.  “Nope, not a soul.  You should come next time, though.”

“Isa is a good inventor, but well… science is 95% trial and error, as she likes to say.” They’d reached a garden that wasn’t cut up by some angry animal and she took a deep breath, a smile on her lips. “I don’t see any reason to go running.  Corona is pretty peaceful.”

“Couldn’t really tell ya, Raps. I’ve lived here my whole life. Or, as far back as I can remember, at least.” She rolled her shoulders back. “Maybe it’s not the place, but the people. I mean, things weren’t nearly this exciting here until you came along.”

“O h. Soooooo, I’m the weirdness magnet.” Well that and she sort of encouraged more people to start interacting with the town. Mainly the so called ‘ruffians and thugs’. “My first impression of this place was when it was at the height of celebration and excitement, so I wasn’t sure what it was like before.”

“Absolutely nothing, sweetheart.” Yes he knows that accusing look.  He’d gotten the same when he asked about presents he could get Cass.  “Went for a walk outside town is all.”

“Well, with our luck, the strange deity magic will probably come to us.” She laughed at that. Every day was always an adventure with her. “Let’s just hope that’s a ways off, though. Like you said, the king certainly wouldn’t be happy to hear about it.” They were probably pushing their luck just being out this late.

“Blondie!” He hadn’t seen Rapunzel since yesterday, and that was entirely because he’d hidden in the forest and been skulking around to avoid Cassandra’s possible wrath.  “What have you been up to?”

“Oh the usual, guitar session with Pascal, some painting, switched out my library books, shadowed my dad a bit while he worked.” She held out her hand, holding out a finger for each activity.

“Ah, no, my sister did… exactly that, is all.  She was trying to make a bouquet for our abuela and it didn’t end well.  Maybe it’s universal?”

Cassandra did listen to her, smiling as Rapunzel explained. The way her eyes lit up when telling stories and explaining facts she learned was so endearing. She’d never met anyone else with such a love for the world.

“A queen with beautiful hair, huh? Reminds me of someone.” She laughed a little, nudging Rapunzel’s shoulder. “You probably shouldn’t offer your hair to any deities, though. I think you’d have a hard time giving it to them.” Her collection of various broken knives and scissors could attest to that.

“I suppose?  You don’t have any inventors around here who may have set off a crazy bouquet-making machine, do you?” No?  Maybe that was just her.  “Corona is certainly interesting.”

Maybe it was a bad time to visit?  She had been invited, but there seemed to be a bit of… chaos around.  Not that Rapunzel noticed.

“Princesa?  Are you sure we shouldn’t be concerned about that hedge?” Her new friend hadn’t had an explanation for it.

“Whaaaaat? Psh it’s probably fine. It’s just hmmm.... a little minimalist?” There sure were a lot of branches and leaves left on the ground though. 

“Are there really?” Rapunzel was always full of fun facts. “I can’t imagine living somewhere like that. I mean, I like the night, but not that much.”

They had reached the docks now. Cassandra watched her footing carefully, not keen on the idea of taking an unexpected nighttime swim. “You said you chart stars, right? They’re pretty clear tonight. Do they mean anything?” They were certainly very visible, but if they had any special meaning, she wouldn’t know where to begin to find it.

“Oh! You remembered.” It was pleasantly surprising to see that people actually listened to her now. Letting her ramble on about her many interests. Before it had only ever been Pascal and as much as she appreciated it, he couldn’t always engage the same way.

He was more than happy to lean back down for a longer kiss.  “Hey, to your credit, there’s precedent for you having crazy schemes,” he said.  “How about we get a souvenir and then sneak past the guards again?”
