Who hasn't taken out their anger and frustrations on someone?
Nestha did the same by rejecting Cass, so why would Elain be any different?
Besides, they have the idea that rejection is just about someone telling Lucien and that she'll never see her partner again and not having to deal with a bond that will NEVER go away.
Elain has feelings, she may be rejecting Lucien because of the trauma, because she still wants to be HUMAN and her ex-fiancé.
More on the beauty aspect, I always thought that Sarah emphasized beauty and her fragile appearance as something not so positive, because it made people see her as someone incapable of taking care of herself.
I remember very well Feyre thinking that Elain wouldn't be able to handle the male passion of Autumn because she only saw her for her appearance and what she showed.
Az arrives and once again highlights Elain as fragile, beautiful, yet another angel who can't take any risks…
I don't think Sarah included this to portray Elain as something beautiful or positive about her being judged by her appearance.
It's a hallmark of Sarah's couples. Did Yrene not take her issues with Adarlan out on Chaol the second she met him? Elide assumed she knew why Lorcan had done what he did lashed out at him without knowing the truth. We're seeing the exact same thing with Elain and how she's treating Lucien, just in a different font because their setup is different than what we've seen before, it's never going to be the exact same from pairing to pairing but the underlying themes are consistent. As far as her looks, I do agree that Sarah is writing how Elain's beauty is a hindrance to her character. Az treats her like a beautiful doll who should not be taken off her shelf, others treat her like - because she's attractive - she's lacking in the intelligence department (despite the fact that she's constantly saying wise and observant things) and still others act as if she's so beautiful and delicate she needs to be protected because she clearly is too fragile to handle anything on her own. It does make you wonder what it is about Elain's looks that provoke this sort of response when you don't see it from others (and no, I do not buy certain takes that Elain encourages it, the text literally tells us "Elain had gone from lovely to devastatingly beautiful. Elain never seemed to realize it." nor do I think any barely 11 year old girl would play into the fact that her own mother thinks she's only good for her appearance. Not to mention she's waiting on and serving the others, if you're using your looks to get your way you'd have people waiting on you). Maybe because Elain is noted as being delicate like you said, with Sarah writing things for her like "slender fingers, fine-boned back, her legs so pale - so delicate." She's not mentioned as being curvy like Mor or long and lithe or muscular like some of the other females in the series and because of that maybe the others fail to imagine her as a warrior type. Which is somewhat valid, she's not, but I think the characters forget that you don't have to be a warrior to still be strong and capable of making a difference.
I’ll say this as many times as necessary:
Lucien Vanserra was the character who most respected his mate throughout the ENTIRE saga.
He didn't kiss her without consent, didn't force her into a deal, didn't tell her to her face that no one liked her, didn't twist her broken arm, didn't make her train when she didn't want to; didn't hide a high-risk pregnancy from her, nor did he threaten to kill her sister when she told the truth, he left the room because he thought he was bothering her, acknowledged that she killed the King of Hybern, believed in her vision and went after Vassa on his own, fought his way across the battlefield just to check if she was okay, made Elain laugh, gives her gifts he knows she likes, doesn't demand an answer from her, couldn't give a damn about a Blood Duel, calls her "Lady" instead of "third sister," had a 💖🎶💖 moment when he first saw her in ACOWAR, and broke the Hybern's King power without even realizing it, just so he could run to her and cover her with his coat.
And that’s why the more the Elriels call him toxic or abusive toward Elain more I laugh.
I think it’s important to point out that the original endgame was Mor x Azriel. For the period between ACOMAF and ACOWAR, you could find memes and posts from the fandom suspecting them being mates, even some posts on SJM’s Pinterest. ACOWAR came, in the midst of SJM receiving heavy criticism for her lack of representation including lack of LGBT+ representation, and so the ship that wasn’t fully confirmed sunk. The framing for Mor and Azriel shifted from two people nervous to admit feeling into a man pursuing a queer woman who felt too unsafe to reveal her sexuality and let him down. Moriel was no more, their dynamics and parts of their characterization reframed, and both of them were without mates / love interests.
With that being said, you look at Gwyn and Emerie, and you look at ACOMAF Mor and Azriel, and to me Gwynriel and Emorie are variations on what Moriel was originally planned to be, but with consideration of the changes made to Mor and Azriel’s respective characters since the Moriel-sinking of ACOWAR. Gwyn is incredibly similar to ACOMAF Mor, right down to the backstory, tension, and reactions she illicits in Azriel; Emerie, a scarred Illyrian with a complicated relationship her people pining after Mor, paralleling what Azriel felt towards Mor in ACOMAF. Emerie and Gwyn were designed for Mor and Azriel, in the particular ways in which Mor and Azriel had complemented each other prior to the ACOWAR re-write.
I can explain away the ACOWAR E/riel moments as nothing more than SJM toying with where to put Azriel in light of knowing she was going in the direction of sinking Moriel, but Elucien had too much attached to them in terms of tension and tropes and plot, or E/riel just didn’t work with what she pictured for Azriel originally to continue down that line. But the creation of Gwyn and Emerie, for me, was not only friends for Nesta, but in part because she knew that something wasn’t right about E/riel, and Mor and Azriel needed love interests with backstory, build up, and dynamic to what Moriel was planned to be before, love stories that covered what she wanted Moriel to cover in terms of themes and tropes.

Lucien had two beds in his apartment. Two beds. And, on top of that, a chaise lounge with a pillow on it. A pillow that strongly suggested it had been used by him (not that she sniffed. Maybe just briefly, but she’d never admit to it).
Why on earth would someone who barely visited the city, let alone stayed in it, need so many sleeping arrangements?
Was he sharing the apartment with someone? Renting it out to strangers? Running some secret business?
Curiosity, entirely inconvenient, pricked at her. Elain came to the very conscious, entirely rational conclusion that she needed to find out exactly why Lucien owned two beds and a suspiciously well-used chaise lounge.

The Elucien Mommy and Daddy bracelets made me remember about these WIPs! And by WIPs I mean please squint because these are the definition of underbaked. I know this will probably land me on some weirdo E/riel hit list but I love the idea of Lucien and Elain having a bunch of kids. They both seem like they'd LOVE being parents.
