The sound and sight of the pitch-black water rippling against the shoreline never failed to calm her spirit. She caught a streak of white out of the corner of her eye-a snowy owl silently catching its nightly meal. Owls, one of her symbols, she smiled. Nix breathed deep and raised her arms. "Come to me," she whispered, closing her eyes. A dark mist swirled into her ankles rising higher and higher until it reached her waist.

She blew out her breath. Nix opened her eyes, they swirled with light as if the stars themselves swam in their depths. She flicked her fingers and the stars darted across the sky, matching the dance in her eyes. Still got it, she smirked. Nix froze and cocked her head, the smirk falling from her face. She suddenly got the feeling she was no longer alone.

“I’m fine.”

How loosely or strictly do they use the word 'friend'?

Everyone is Nix’s friend until they cross her.

She keeps her true emotions pretty close to the vest.

“Love ya” is dropped all the time, but “I love you” is reserved for the special few.

First step was making it through Tartarus, which to be fair, she kinda lived there, so she was pretty familiar with. It did house the worst of the worst, so she was glad to finally make it out of there. The Asphodel Meadows housed Achilles and Odysseus and it tugged on her heartstrings to finally see them reunited so she may have voyeured a little longer than necessary. The inhabitants of the Elysium Fields on the other hand seemed to have sticks up their butts. The “heroes” housed there were none too keen on having an escapee make it past them. She had never had to fight so long and hard in her existence and she still wasn’t free yet!!

Circling the Underworld seven times, the River Styx was the river of hatred and unbreakable oaths. She had to cross through every circle, draining her strength and willpower more and more with each level. And this was the wanting to end it all type of draw on her faculties we’re talking about. And by that point, that wasn’t looking like that bad of an option. But…BUT…Nix persevered like they teach you to do in school and finally made it out of the Underworld. And where did that let out? Greece, naturally…which she promptly evacuated for a country that didn’t worship the Greek Pantheon.

You might ask why she was living a “normal” life? Was she on the run? Escaping from a God turf war? Witness Protection? To tell the truth-she just got tired of it all. All the politics, the bullshitting, the wars. And let’s not mention the favoritism (cough Aphrodite cough). So, it was time for a break, and so what if that break has taken a millennia? It wasn’t like she just stopped working; the Night was intact. The world was safe. Yippee!! Eyeroll. The job was important, don’t get me wrong. When she was responsible for the life and sleep of everyone on the planet, she was kind of an important being to keep around.
