You never change Al- his brow furrows and it feels like hes been sucker punched. Why does this asshole know- it can’t be, right? Because if it was, Sherry would have told him that their dads had been friends, right? It makes him feel queasy but this asshole just has to be trying to get to him. Manipulative little prick.
Jake looks at Will like he’s grown a second head. “Dude, she’s a grown ass woman.” If he wasn’t off put by him before his infantilizing comments about Sherry sure isn’t winning Birkin any favors. “Actually you don’t know shit about me, Professor. Anything between me and her is between us and on her terms.” He’d take his money and retire them both if she would let him.
“I know you’re not gonna be surprised but I don’t care what you think about me. What matters is what Shery wants and her being happy. So stop acting like she’s some kind of helpless girl, it ain’t my fault you apparently think she’s weak. Hell, pretty sure she was keeping up with my bodycount out there.” For just a second he’s remembering being at those cameras and watching Sherry kicking guys ass with that electro rod while she was wearing that little paper dress- a languid blink to get his mind refocused and not that way. Sherry’s way better off not dealing with this asshole.
He only turns more red in the face at the man. If this is how he acts, how must he act around Sherry? He folds his arms and turns his head away, acting more akin to a child himself, when Jake remarks about her being a grown woman. "I know she is a grown woman. She has been through it all. That doesn't mean I can't be worried about someone like you."
"That type of thinking is what used to get us dead at the ripe age of 30 back in the day. Acting like she has to learn everything herself, repeat the same mistakes that your parents made, because you don't want to listen to them. I can certainly tell her not to go into a relationship you will regret. If she can be spared heartache and pain and regret, then that's all the better for her." He sneers at him.
"If there's one thing I know, is if you run into a relationship because you think it's the right thing to do, you can spend the rest of your life regretting it." He sounds a touch upset, speaking from experience, but his pissed off demeanor keeps that from being too obvious.
"Perhaps you're right about something, which I know must be rare for you. She isn't weak. She can fight. She is smart. She is capable. She can hold a job. She can get money without resorting to crime. She is better than all of you! So why on earth does she need you? What can you do other than hurt her?"
Jake snorts in response. “Making the same mistakes our parents make- wouldn’t you have to be around to impart that wisdom?” If William wants to judge so openly about him, he can return the favor. He’s starting to remember why he has a ‘are your parents dead or you don’t talk to them’ rule. He feels a pang for his own lost, for someone he could commiserate with for how they look at him, but that is long gone.
“No, actually I have a decent track record of being right. Including being right about I don’t care what you think about me.” He has to focus on releasing the tension in his jaw. Another American, judging him for what he does, when the circumstances are far beyond their understanding. One more person to add to the list that look at him like he’s a dog thats been labeled as a bite risk for his DNA, for where he was born, for a face scar, for perceived slights.
Jake wants nothing more than to drag this petty little bitch into the dirt with him. To pull him apart by the seams, point out that his hands are dirty too, because he knows this man died for his work, not for Sherry. But Whatever retort he has dies in his mouth, under hushed slavic words that are barely loud enough to be heard. It isn’t worth it.
“We can agree that Sherry is better than both of us.” Because he’s not letting this guy who wasn’t even there act like a ‘father’ now. “She doesn’t need me.” His voice is factual like he’s giving a report to a supervisor. Jake has no qualms about saying it to him, or to anyone. “I can follow after her even when she tries to sacrifice herself. I can fight to get back to her.” He raises his arms up, showing an unarmed man. “The moment she tells me she doesn’t want me around, I can bow out. Until then, why don’t you trust her judgment since you think she’s smarter and better than everyone. Maybe she’s a better judge of character than you.”

No need for anonymity; I've been told being honest with one another is a sign of a healthy relationship. Jake, if it had been up to me, you would not have lived. I wonder, if your mother had suspected as much, hence her departure. But, I must concede, an anomalous variable can be a real boon, on the right occasion.
Jake barks a laugh before he can even get through the words meant to cut. The closest thing Wesker has to a healthy relationship would make Patrick Bateman proud. But the humor is lost once his mother is brought into it. So what that he didn’t want him, he can’t say that he’s surprised by the words or the revelation. It’s been rather apparent to him that he wasn’t meant to be, who somehow managed slipped through the cracks.
“Don’t worry, if it’s up to me? I’ll make sure you wont live either.”
Anonymously confess something that your muse wants to tell mine.
question for the day : has jake ever looked into the history of albert ( and maybe even william ), or is it something he shirks and refuses to have any connection to? does he hold resentment for who his father is, even if he says otherwise, or does he genuinely see him as irrelevant?
He has! But i imagine finding information on someone from the 80’s or 90’s is a little harder not to mention who it is, so he’s trying to avoid the magnifying glass being turned on him. For that he’s turned to black market intel and I actually have developed some hc’s/have a thread with @ubcs where Nikolai (under a fake name) is an anonymous information broker that Jake drops a considerable amount on. Sometimes he gets research papers from him, sometimes its other documents related to bioterrorism. He’s possibly seen a few grainy photos of him, but more specifically about his father is expensive and he doesn’t want to become a larger target.
As far as William, Jake doesn’t want to look into Sherry’s past without her permission. He takes what she says at face value, her father died because of his work and thats what matters.
That being said if/when he finds out they knew each other he… probably wouldn’t react well. The longer she waits to tell him that and if he finds out and it doesn’t come from her, he would certainly feel betrayed/used/ have a lot of negative connotations. (Just like he would really have a reaction to finding out he was ever referred to as a Wesker. Knife to the heart.)
He 100% holds resentment for who Albert was. The events of 6 really thrust Jake into a world where everyone hates him because of some guy he never met. Jake does not even know what wesker looks like and even when given a name is like ok and??? His father has always been irrelevant in the way that Jake never expected to meet the man, that idea died with his mother. But suddenly being enemy number 1 and not even for things he’s done pushed him from irrelevant to resentment. There’s also some heavy resentment that this biologist who clearly had money, could have possibly helped his mother and pay for treatment, or that he didn’t have to be adopted by a bunch of mercenaries as a relatively defenseless child. His resentment and disgust lay in the fact that he finds him and his father so different but almost no one else seems to see it. He feels like everyone is waiting for him to snap and it feeds into the ever growing resentment of who his father was.

Pic under the cut-
Currently have someone working on commissions for me for a re9 timeline of Jake, but for reference my long haired boy-
@priceforeverything
"Not to say I don't have faith in Ms. Birkin and Mr. Kennedy, of course, but trusting the DSO is another matter entirely."
Bethany tilts her head and glances up at the young man, mug of coffee nestled in both hands, and a knowing look of healthy skepticism shoots his way through her one good eye. Trusting the government? In this day and age especially? Inconceivable. Bethany has seen much of the corrupting nature of power. She knows that moles and those who would twist even the most well-intentioned of organizations to their own ends are everywhere - even within TerraSave itself, and has dedicated more years than she cares to think about in rooting them out. The task is Sisyphean, albeit just as necessary as it is unending. And there is no one else she would trust with it. The responsibility is isolating. So of course why else would she give the benefit of the doubt to anyone else's infrastructure?
Raccoon City is an enigma. Its outbreak is perhaps the most widely publicized in the world, the fallout after its bombing equally so. And yet it is just as much mythologized. Everything about it was wrapped up neatly. Too neatly. Bethany is not an inherently suspicious person, her distrust is something developed over time as a finely tuned survival mechanism, and every instinct she has tells her something is off about it, likely always has been.
There is a balance to be struck between 'baseless rumours' and 'no smoke without fire', and this is where Jake would come in.
"One of my informants let me know some very interesting things about what the FBI is up to, and it lines up with what we have been investigating ourselves, with this mysterious sickness. Preliminary findings aren't good -" She breaks off and looks at him again "-don't worry, I'm not about to ask you to make a blood donation. Yet. Where you come in is boots on the ground. There are too many things that don't add up about what happened to Raccoon City and I have a funny feeling that aspects of that history are coming home to roost."
Bethany places her mug on the desk, then leans on it. "I realize this might be asking a lot. Given.... who was involved back then. But I think that's a reason why you're the right person for this. I know you can handle it. And it just so happens you won't be doing it alone."
“Oh? The FBI is doing something shady. Next thing I know, you’ll tell me BSAA is corrupt, unless they just like sending brain damaged soldiers in as fodder. Or that the DSO keeps all their staff on a tight leash.” His drawl sounds bored with this because he is, he’s been dealing with the repercussions of men who would never see the damage they had done, because the people who were collateral weren’t ever considered. Trusting any government agency is lining yourself up for the inevitable funeral procession, one that doesn’t even pay you well. But he’s not illegally here because he has some care what happens to the people trying to bury the past.
Boots on the ground- that garners some attention, at least he stops trying to look everywhere else, to look at her. “You know I don’t work well with others.” But Jake reminds himself why he’s here, why he always seems to get caught up in this shit right now. Sherry. Sherry could walk straight into the gates of hell and Jake would be two steps behind her, hands in his pockets acting like it was his idea. Something is going on with her and he doesn’t know what it is, but it’s giving him that same feeling in his gut that tells him he has to keep investigating. Fucking shit, this girl is always getting him in trouble.
A grunt and a wave at her concern. “I’m not attached to some city.” He acts like thats her worry anyway, that he’s not going to get distracted trying to hunt through for files on him, where would they even be- maybe the station? An irritated exhale through his nostrils. He starts speaking, lifting up thumb, pointer, middle, goes down his points. “You want me to get attention or not, solely observation or am I taking out numbers, who’s the poor sap I have to drag through this?”
I gotta hand it to sandler that this scene is exactly what listening to that song feels like.
Jake is 75-90% sure that if he took time to actually learn science he could be smarter than his father because he’s just like that, but his only motivation is spite.
Jake, spending money on finding out info about anyone he thinks is related to him, more likely than you think.

Imparting fatherly wisdom, for once: if you’re trying to date someone rich, you shouldn’t speak of your own financial troubles. Simply accept whatever they offer, even if you don’t need it at that moment.
Many think that you should turn things down to appear proper and not desperate but that is a rookie mistake. If you question their offerings each time, they will gradually offer less!
Once you have established your presence in their life, start pressuring for a joint bank account, slowly. This is where not discussing your financial issues comes in, handy.
If they are less aware of your own financial status, they will guard their wealth less. You can always have things ‘come up’ when you need to spend more than usual.
Don’t spend large chunks of money in one go. Try not to go above mid four digits and limit yourself to three digits for most things. They are less likely to pay attention to such transfers.
Any questions?
“I’ll listen to your advice when you transfer me the pain and suffering cost of being related to you. Im thinking we start at 100 million and then I bill you quarterly for therapy.”
"There's part of me you will never meet." Nikolai 'Misha' -> Jake 'Jashi' unprompted
His favorite days were when Misha came back from work. The flat begins to feel alive again, less grey and stagnant. Jashi always gets up a little earlier than normal, goes through his workout routine to get his mind right to make a plan. Clean up their place, get supplies and start on a meal.
Cooking is one of the realms he is very confident in and knowing that he has someone with high expectations gives him a challenge he enjoys. It would have to be balanced and enough for the two of them which alone was a feat in itself. Fresh brown bread with marinated mushrooms then pan fried, miso flavored black cod with a furakake crust and asparagus, braised leg of lamb with a parsnip puree, followed by russian tea cakes with a smoky black tea.
Dinner had gone great or at least, Jashi thought it had. But Sometimes there were moments like this. Moments when lives that they’ve lived before intersect, or when they come back to stare at you after you’ve looked away. A noise of acknowledgement as he refills Misha’s preferred glass, pushes it gently into his hand as he passes by. He gets himself comfortable on the couch, half leaning on Misha, legs curled up on the leather. “Is it a part of you that you want me to meet?” That matters more to him than the before, fingers smoothing over the other mans knuckles. He isn’t there to be judge, jury, and executioner, that’s a cross he doesn’t enjoy baring.
“You’ve been honest with me when it matters. So I trust that you’ll continue to introduce me to the parts of you that matter, Misha.”
