Loft
The loft is about comfortability. Originally it was paired with Ann Taylor loft as its full name as in its sister company . Ann Taylor, the sister company is more formal and business like rather than loft which is more a weekend clothing line. Lou & Grey, Ann Taylor and Loft are all underneath one umbrella as a corporation. The company is inspired by every day women who work and need to transition into different events. The brand has been thriving for the past decade and will continue with e-commerce. Loft age bracket is from young professionals 20 something all the way to middle age women at the height of their career.Â
From listening to the panel what I have learned is what their number 1 focus is. Their number one focus at loft as far as design team concern is fit. The design team repeatedly spoke about how their clothing will fit on their consumer. This is very important to them since they are a mass market brand they cater to wide range of sizes for women. They focus on fit and delivery because their client or girl is constantly on the move wants it to be easy to choose clothing throughout their day. Another observation that I made is there a lot of position at such a big company like this and a lot of different departments too. After listening in on the panel it made me conclude that this type company would not be the right fit for me.
What resonated with was not what Jessica said but what Jamie was preferably speaking on. Again, it is always so nice to hear that all experience matters when it comes to gaining a design position/ I also like that Jamie gave the reassurance that it is okay to have weakness as a designer. This especially resonated with me because I feel quite guilty sometimes. I look at my other classmates and they are stronger in other areas that I am not. However with what Jamie said about not being a strong illustrator is okay. He mention that a designer can not be everything once sometimes after recently graduating.
