Eating healthy is not something that most Americans accomplish. As Americans, we are surrounded by processed foods, fast food chains, and many unhealthy sweet drinks and foods. Children in America have an obesity problem and that has a lot to do with the ingredients and foods they eat from an early age. The benefits of healthy eating at a young age prevent high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, dental issues (cavities), iron deficiency, and heart disease later in their lives. Added sugars and solid fats accounted for 40% of daily calories in children from age 2-18 in America, and most children do not drink the amount of water they need each day. Children are also ex[posed to many artificial sweeteners, and refined carbohydrates which are both unhealthy for a developing child. Energy drinks also have been widely accessible to children, and these drinks contain a large amount of caffeine with many other artificial sweeteners. Starting a child with vegetables, fruits, and good fats from a young age will increase the likelihood that the child will eat healthy in his/her life. These actions to help kids eat healthy have drastic long-term effects and their needs to be more emphasis on what Americans are feeding their children.

Sports participation is a key predictor of young adult's participation in sports and physical activities. Young children that play sports are eight times more likely to be physically active at twenty-four years old then children that do not play sports. 77% of adults over thirty that play sports started playing sports as children. Only 3% of adults over thirty that now play sports did not play as children. The more active a community is, the more healthy they usually are as a whole. Being involved in sports from a young-age also improves a child's mood, and introduces them to competition. Sports also have been shown to increase cognitive skills and improve grades in young children. A child must learn how to play a sport and the rules associated with that sport. It can make learning fun for a child and they can translate this ability to learn into education at school. Sports also improve the mental health of children and when these sports were taken away during Covid-19, one in 4 adults said the loss of sports for their child affected them in a negative way. There are also many different sports and this gives a child a chance to find their interests and be a well-rounded individual.

Today's children are exposed to technology that can be beneficial, but also can be risky to their well-being. Kids are exposed to information that is not healthy for them at a young age, and parents must play an important role in regulating their technology use. Screen-time limits are a constant battle between parents and children nowadays and parents find it hard to regulate their child's screen-time. Spending to much time on technology has made many children not want to experience nature, learn things by failing, and they lack common sense. Children do not get the exercise needed at a young age as well. They also are easily exposed to inappropriate content that is easily accessible without parental controls. Technology has changed an entire generation of children and how they develop and it may be for the worse rather than for the better.

Covid-19 changed the classroom dynamic, and resulted in the National Outdoor Learning initiative being formed in May 2020. The purpose was to motivate schools and districts to adopt outdoor learning. Outdoor learning has been praised by mental health experts, and many educators. The benefits of outdoor learning can help students develop many traits. Students have a higher chance of connecting with other students, and building a capacity to self-direct learning. Systematic studies also show that nature-based learning can improve student's well-being and academic performance. Outdoor learning can be beneficial for teaching sciences, and has shown that it improves focus and behaviors in young children. With all the new technology in the modern world, children are not experiencing the same things that I experienced at a young age. Children do not develop certain skills that are important in life because they are becoming to reliant on technology to do things for them rather than teaching them how to do these things. Outside learning can change the way children learn and enhance their life skills that they will need in the future.

Do you think exercise makes your overall mood and self esteem boost a level?  It is a proven fact that exercising daily can prevent illness, reduce stress, boost mood, and improve sleep.  I believe it is important to move your body everyday whether that be outside or inside, but when you are constantly changing environments outside whether it be walking on the beach or up a hill, your body works harder to process the environment you are in which leads to more calories burned. Outdoor exercise is free and comes with no contract, you decide where you want to go workout and that can be anywhere from sports to a walk on the beach with a friend, both show significant health benefits.

Murdaugh, a well known family of what once was a family of four, enriched in the coastal part of South Carolina has been facing nationwide media attention following the trial of father Alex Murdaugh accused of killing wife Margaret Murdaugh and son Paul.  The Murdaugh name goes back generations to well known lawyers in the state of South Carolina.  Alex has been accused of stealing millions from his firm in addition to being charged with two counts of murder. Alex defends his statement that he is guilty after evidence has put him at the scene within five minutes of the murders, but why would he kill his wife and son in cold blood?  Alex was dealing with an opioid addiction that Paul and Maggie were both very aware of and pressured Alex to seek help which sometimes resulted in arguments.  The son Paul found himself in legal trouble at an early age of 18 and the Murdaugh name took care of his charges, but Paul was still facing threats from killing 19 year old Mallory Beach in a boat crash on February 24, 2019.  Was there enough motive for Alex to commit these crimes? On March 3, 2023 Murdaugh was sentenced to life in prison for double murder.
