"Gavroche" is a heroic revolutionary film based on Victor Hugo's novel " Les Miserables ", directed by Tatyana Lukashevich at the Mosfilm studio in 1937 .
Restored at the Gorky Film Studio in 1976 .
The film's plot differs significantly from the novel's. New characters are added, and their motivations are adapted to better suit the revolutionary romance of the film's young audience.
Paris, 1832. Touchet, who had escaped from penal servitude, was arrested in his former apartment just as the police came to evict the residents of the Gorbeau building for non-payment.
After their mother's death, the Touchet children were taken in by a little vagabond named Gavroche , who slept inside a wooden elephant statue in the Place de la Bastille. He later helped their father escape from prison and met him at the Montmartre barricade , built by revolutionary-minded Parisians .
The defending commander, Enjolras, conveyed to Gavroche the sad news of his father's death in the royal prison. The boy fought alongside other revolutionaries and was killed by a guardsman's bullet while making a daring raid for ammunition.
