crime and punishment is such a funny book because on one hand porfiry is playing six dimensional chess, psychologically torturing, viciously gaslighting raskolnikov into confessing the crime by making himself inescapable and raskolnikov’s heart is beating out of his chest as he’s like he’s too smart for me, he knows everything, how can I possibly outsmart this madman. but then also porifry will ask questions like “do you think some people are allowed to kill others and that you are one of those people” and raskolnikov will just be like “yeah”

And the funniest part about this is the fact that he didn’t even rescind his bizarre philosophy after getting caught. He just concluded that he was one of the people who should be punished for killing people in cold blood, but some other people should still be able to kill without facing any repercussions. Dostoyevsky was so funny for this.
