CULT OF THE SCAPEGOAT

I take back my original statement, the ending is bad.

So the entire time it was really beating you over the head like LOOK HOW HORRIBLE GODS ARE and I was REALLY fucking with that like yea fuck those guys!!!! (And lamb is no different so fuck me too!!!!) And everytime Marchosias was talking I was like yea you're making a lot of sense!!! Then Yngya kept talking about Power and it's like oh yep. Here we go again.

But then you kill Marchosias with like. No real consequences. What I mean is that I was expecting to be shown how this would effect the people who were freed. This might still happen tbf I only just finished the main story so maybe after we get something??? But I think it needed more time between that and the Yngya battle to breathe and really process what you just did. I think having some kind of confrontation with some freed ex followers afterwards would have done a lot of good here, maybe also show the pain caused by the rot to everyday people instead of just the mole guy questioning is it's the right thing to do every once in a while I think we need to be shown more than the flesh monsters here. (Also side note I hope they explain why the mole was so loyal to Yngya. Not mad if that's post story content but like I wanna know what was up with that guy lol)

Then there's the Yngya battle which is where my main problems are. Like we have our theme clearly laid out here: God's are bad. All they do is cause suffering and all they care about is power. This is a really good theme and transfers over perfectly from the first game. Then it turns out Yngya is.. actually good? And it was the lambs who made her evil??? Because they were too mad about the whole genocide thing?????? Okaaayyyy (I also feel like there's a discussion to be had about the genocide victims being the Twist Villain thing but that feels like such a Big Thing to get into rn it's 5:30am when I'm writing this so let's just put a pin in how that's CRAZY and focus on the bad writing for rn we can come back to All That later LOL + if we're being real cotl has always had a problem with taking serious things seriously so 🙄🙄)

I think this would have worked much much MUCH better if Yngya never cared about her following and just sees them as a means to an end. (You know.. like every God in the game does). She's mad they died but only because she needs them to maintain her own power. She "disappeared" because Gods are cowardly and she would rather bet on the last lamb prophecy than be killed with the rest of her following. You are bringing lost souls "home", not allowing them to rest, because she needs them to regain her power. Even after you die for them a god will continue to demand more of you. It was so perfectly set up for this that I'm sort of in shock they decided on some weird "revenge bad" type message at the end. It's just.. an odd choice. Also the ending felt super abrupt to me.

I still really like woolhaven! It's fun to play and they introduce a lot of new lore that will be fun to pick apart + the music and visuals go crazy as always! Right now the weird ending just sticks out in my mind because it's the last thing I experienced. (Also no new goat lore which is huge for me because I don't have to change anythingggg :D) it's just that we went from what could have been Great to "good but the ending" in the last second. Weird whiplash.

Anyone else feel this way? I feel like with the nature of fandoms any criticisms are gonna be drowned out + everyone will just be focusing on shipping anyways. This is a safe space for woolhaven criticism let's be the greek philosophers on the stairs meme together 💜
