Matrimony - Chapter 2
Continued from Chapter 1....
7:30 PM
“That was insulting man. We need to do something about it.”. Dev told as he looked on still thinking if he should be laughing about the situation.
Sam and I told at the same moment “Her sister should change the profile if she wants some higher educated man”.
“So what does she mean, we are not educated or what”, Dev told in disgust.
“We are, but she wants someone more educated than us…may be an MBA or Civil services.”
Sam intervened “but we have to call Ashis and ask him to change her sister’s profile.”
“Let’s go now, will do it later” I told.
“No, do it now..give me the phone”
Seeing that these guys are not going to let it go so easily, I called him once again.
I could see that Sam had something in his mind to tell him and I did not like it. I told to myself “Boy, this is going to end not so well”.
A brief tone put brakes on my thoughts and I realized that the number was busy.
“It’s busy, we will call later”.
“No, we will call today. Dev, prepare a nice speech in English and we will tell him if we are educated or not”, Sam quipped.
“I am ready. It was ridiculous”, Dev told. I was not at all sure if he really meant that.
I called him once again but still the busy tone came.
“I can bet he is talking to his sister now and asking her if she knew us” Sam told.
I objected “Come one man, forget it and let’s go. He wants a better guy for her sister and he thinks that we are not the suitable candidate, period. It’s getting late, lets move.”
We started walking back towards the office and Sam once again told “I still cannot believe he raised objection on my education. This job is shit. It has got no value now - a- days. No one cares about IT engineers today, they are everywhere. Gone are the days when we used to be exclusive”
I acknowledged quietly keeping in mind not to put fuel on the topic still relieved that at last they have put down the plan of calling him and abusing.
Suddenly Dev told “At least drop him a message that he sister should change her profile and mention clearly that she is looking for a higher educated person”.
“Okay, will do it once I reach home”, I told.
“No, you won’t do it. Do it now”, Sam argued.
“Arey I will do it…don’t worry”
“Okay, listen. No one should know what we encountered today. We would become laughing stocks” Sam was smiling as he told this.
We burst into laughter as Dev told “We had so confidently called him to ask her sister out and instead got our confidence shattered”. We continued to have a laugh on the matter.
To be continued....
Matrimony - Chapter 1
“Hailooo”. A shrill voice responded from the other side of the phone as we were unable to comprehend if it was indeed the guy to whom we had given the call to.
“Hello, This is Dev from TCS, Bhubaneshwar” was the response Sam put forward after the initial pause. He continued “Am I speaking to Ashis”.
“Yes, this is Ashis”, came back from the phone.
“We actually saw your sister's profile in the matrimony site and just wanted to inquire if you are looking for a groom.” Sam said.
“Yes, I am indeed looking for a suitable candidate but can you first tell me which year did you completed your degree”. Ashis asked
“2005”.
“And which college did you complete your degree from”??
“Simanta College of Engg.”Sam told emphatically
After a bit of hesitation, Ashis replied back “To be very frank, we are looking for a higher educated person”.
“Uh….well…um….Okay”. Sam disconnected the call as Dev (original) and I had already started to laugh our guts out. Sam too joined the amusement and we had a nice laugh for 5 minutes when suddenly Dev told “Wait, I think this guy actually offended us and we should not be laughing. We should be doing something about this”.
Well we had planned it all since afternoon. We had Plan B, C and D in place if Plan A didn’t work but it came as a googly to us. All of this started in the afternoon when one of the guys saw the Pooja’s(NAME CHANGED) profile in the Matrimony site and recommended to Sam. The profile was just what Sam had been dreaming to see in her future wife. After having our lunch, we decided to ping the lady as she was from our organization itself and it would be safe to talk to Pooja first before talking to her guardians.
Dev pinged “Hi, this is Dev from TCS, Bhubaneshwar”. We waited in anxiety expecting her prompt reply. Unfortunately no reply came.
“Okay, may be she is busy in something” I said coming to her defence as Dev and Sam begin to crib about her poor behavior in not even acknowledging someone's greeting.
I continued “May be she is not in her desk and some one else is sitting on her desk” trying to hold it together.
“I don’t think we should ping her back”. Anyways I don't want a girl who does not know any manners” Sam told in a disappointed voice as I looked on…
5:30 PM
“Hi, this is Amrita from Bhubaneshwar. Can we have a quick discussion”. We had finally managed to convince Amrita that she should ping her as Pooja would feel comfortable talking to a lady.
In came the reply from Pooja in a flash “Yes, how can I help you”.
“Actually, I saw your profile in a matrimony site…..” Amy could not complete her statement as another message flashed in front of her “You should probably talk to my brother regarding all this. His phone no is xxxxxxxxxxxxxx”.
This message from Pooja was conveyed to Sam. Now we needed to talk to her brother.
The question was who is going to talk. I was not given the responsibility as I have the habit of speaking unnecessary and incorrect words in a conversation. So Sam asked Dev to speak as he could not speak himself about his own marriage.
Dev looked on patiently and then denied very gently and suggested that Sam should speak himself using his (Dev’s) name as an alias and my phone would be used to call.
We made other plans if some weird questions arrive during the conversation like “Why you guys are having this conversation, don’t you have anyone more elderly in your house” and other similar questions. We prepared answers for almost 4-5 questions that we could be facing in the call.
7:00 PM
I, Dev and Sam went to the pool area of the office which would be totally secluded during this hour of the evening and we made the call.
We completed the call still shell shocked about the remark he made about Sam’s education. While we were laughing, Dev pointed out that its not his education that he made fun of, it all our education as we had came from similar colleges.
After a very aggressive discussion, we decided that we should give him a call back and teach him a lesson.
Well that's all I have at this moment. I would publish another post with details of what happened after we gave a call to Ashis.
Site Overhaul
I have finally completed the new design for my site. Thanks to Anshul Dudeja for the excellent template. Still some more finer details are needed which will be done as I move along. After being in idle mode for last 2-3 months, I hope to start blogging again after making the design changes. I know my freind Sam will be reading this post. If you are indeed reading this post, do comment on the new design and what are the necessary changes that can be done to enhance the usability. P.S: I have kept your image as the 1st one in the carousel.
3 Marriages in 1 week
Last week 3 of my friends got married. It's thought it was rather unusual that 3 of my friends were getting married within 7 days. While 2 of them are my schoolmates, the last one is my roommate in Bhubaneshwar. It started with Sabya getting married on Thursday. Erahan came from Bangalore for this one and it was the first time I was meeting him since college. He was the first one to have got married way back in 2008 and I was not able to attend his marriage. In-fact no one from our school friends were able to make it. He didn't speak to us for a long time and it was then that I decided that I will be attending all my friend's marriage from now on.
Then on Sunday Rajat got married. While Sabya's marriage was more like a formality for me, this one was more like a family affair. Rajat and I have been best of pals since we were 5 yrs old and our friendship remains as strong as ever till now. i was really happy about his marriage and I was given the role of Bomber-man in his Baarat party. Then on Wednesday, Amya who is my room-mate got married. I had been planning since last one month to attend all three marriage and accordingly attended the first 2 but for this third one, I was not invited. May be he thought it is very obvious and I don't need to be explicitly invited for the marriage. But without invitation, I thought it would not be very appropriate to go and that's why I skipped his marriage. He hasn't returned back from from the celebrations and I have also not talked with him regarding this matter. I suspect if we will have discussion in this regard. Meanwhile some images from Rajat's marriage

Long Time No see
Again there was a problem in my net connection due to which I was not able to post since last one month. I made it a point to get it fixed this month and so I went on a shopping spree. First I got myself an Air cooler much to the amusement of my elder brother who repeatedly mocked me for not getting an Air Conditioner and getting a cooler instead. But I had my own reasons. Firstly, it's needed for one more month only till monsoons arrive. Secondly it would have made a hole in my pocket which I don't really need right now. After that I got myself a Wireless router and with that I made a peaceful goodbye to all my Internet woes. I no longer require to switch on my room-mate's PC to browse the Internet. I can do it all from the comfort of my bed. Lastly I got myself a new mobile phone. Actually not for myself but rather for my mom who is currently using my old cell phone. So in total I made a purchase of around 10K in 2 days. The next in my checklist are a HD LCD TV and then I will be looking for a 4 wheeler. There is some time before I go for it though. Meanwhile congrats to Sam for his new house and also for the marriage of his brother. Also congrats to Amy for her birthday and her marriage anniversary. It's strange that both her birthday and marriage anniversary fall on the same day. Good for her as she needs to throw a treat only once and good for us as we need to gift her only once. I hope she does not read this :P
Whining =(
New Financial year has started.. I am starting to feel the same way like how I feel three months ago. Whiny and hack care mood. Everyday I dread going to work. I think it is because I am bored of doing the same kind of work. Moreover, I am tired of acting busy and always waiting for 7 pm and Fridays to come. Yet I am unsure of the kind of work I should do next. I feel like taking a good break and travel to places I haven't been. But I need the income coming.. double sadness. =(
Scared in delhi
I was again sent to Delhi but this time it was not for normal project work that I am accustomed to but for a critical bid work. This was a totally new domain for me and I was told to accompany Nik who was leading the bid from assurance perspective. We reached Noida and it was he same office that I had visited earlier. So it was a very familiar environment for me with familiar faces around. Unfortunately that's where the familairity ended. We were asked to join the Board room where people from across the organization had came for their presentation. All the other tower owners were at least 20 yrs experienced and we two had a combined experience of 12 yrs. I was like a cat among the dogs there. Everyone looked at me as though I alien and didn't had the feature set as a human. Anyhow I survived the five days that I was supposed to stay there and got out of delhi in the first chance that I got.
Nothing to Do
The weekend has finally come for this long week and finally I have got a little time to update my Blog. This year I am not getting a lot of time to write the blogs as almost every weekend I am going to my native place during weekdays I am coming from office very late. Actually not much is happening in my life that I can write. Its almost 3 months into the new year and all that I can remember is doing nothing.
I had a poor time in office the whole of last week. I have been continuing in a project that has no end to it and to top it off there is absolutely nothing to do in that project. As expected, Dang asked me to help her team in the Pre-Sales work and prepare a proposal for a Banking project. There's nothing wrong in her to ask for help. The only problem is she doesn't acknowledge my help, rather she thinks its something I must do when I am free.
I was asked to help Skate in making the proposal. He is the original owner for this proposal. Let me first introduce Skate before I move further. He is the kind of guy that few people would like to work with. He is like a shadow figure of Dang, only little less menacing. He is a niggling character who would be constantly on your back and asking if the work has been completed. After ignoring his words for 1 and a half days I finally submitted my proposal. Danger in her usually ruthless manner dismissed my proposal saying its lacking something. On asking how to improve the proposal, she became uncomfortable initially but in the end murmured something that had very little relevance to proposal writing.
Skate and I sat very late that day in Office and managed o make a Draft version of the proposal. He submitted the proposal and also asked me to Join his Presales Team to which I immediately disagreed. From the little amount of work that I have done in PreSales, I have come to know that it is one of the most thankless job. I told him that I will be available to do this on a secondary role but don't expect me to take this job as a primary role.
Back from delhi
I came back from Delhi last week. Honestly, this was one of the most boring and ridiculous office trip I have ever had. Right from the beginning, when I was accompanied by 2 persons whom I had never talked to in my life(That too both were females and much senior than me) till then end when my return flight got delayed. It started okay for me as we had a nice little discussion going on on how to proceed with our work in Delhi but once we reached the office, we came to know that everything was in a bit of mess. They had not followed any procedure and no one had any kind of answers to our questions. I was in for a bit of shock when we reached our Transit Quarters where we were to stay for the next 15 days. It had only one common TV set and no Internet whatsoever. My manager came back to BBSR after just 4 days citing family commitment. So I was left with Jyoti(My Lead Sort of) who I sometimes found very irritating as she never listened my advice on work related things. She has an openion in everything that I said without having enough exeperience in this field. I had to spend my opening weekend with her shopping around Chor bazaars of Noida and Delhi. She also left the following weekend when I was also supposed to return back. But I was asked to stay back and help out the account team. Again family commitments were the reason for her to come back - as if I have come into the face of earth without any family. I met Ishaan and Raj from my ILP batch and we had dinner together. It was a nice get together after 2 months. The following week I was allowed to come back. I had already applied leaves for Monday and Tuesday and I was going to fly on Friday, reach BBSR on Friday night and I had my train to Rourkela after 2 hrs of reaching BBSR. I was planning to go straight to Railway station from airport. I reached the Airport and in came the news that the flight is delayed by 2 hrs. Now this was really ridiculously painstaking to hear. This delayed flight meant I would have missed my train to RKL and all my plans would go out in thin air. I informed my parents about the problem and told them I would need to pick another train the following evening thereby wasting 1 full day. Finally I boarded the flight after long hours doing nothing and reached BBSR. As soon as I reached BBSR, I got a call from my Uncle who has a lot of saying in what goes around in BBSR station to meet one Mr. Tripathy. I went to the station, my original train had already left but I proceeded to meet Mr. tripathy. He presented me with a ticket of another train which was going close to my destination. He asked me to go inside the train and also instructed the TC about me who in turn allocated me a berth in the AC compartment. Finally I reached Jharsuguda in the morning and picked up a Bus to RKL, reached RKL in another 2 hrs. It was little tough but better than wasting my whole day.........

2011 couldn't have got off to a worst start
I had made many resolutions for this new year and I was so optimistic about 2011. I thought this would be the year when my life would be changed and I felt as I was going into the next phase of my life both personally and professionally. My life changed alright but in the most tragical way. My sister-in-law passed away on 31st Dec early morning. She was my sister, I stayed with my brother and her for 2 years when I was in Hyderabad. I have so many sweet memories of her during that time. She cared about me so much we really had a good time around. My mother loved her so much and my dad couldn't stop praising her all the time. She had married my brother after lot of protests from her side of family. It was just 2 years of their marriage and everyone was so happy in my family. I can't imagine what is going through my brother, I just hope he gets himself together in a year or two.
Back to Blogging
After quite a few number of days, my Internet connection problem has been rectified and I am now able to write properly from the cosy comfort of my couch. Amiya has finally taken his desktop from my room which by the way was so oddly placed that it almost ate up half my room. It took almost 2 hrs for me to clean up my room of all the dirt and cobwebs. It was cleaned nearly 3 months ago and after coming from office I felt that the room had more than its share of uncleanliness. That's why I decided to clean the room at the unusual time of 8 PM on a Tuesday. The end result was very satisfying though with a beautiful looking room that is in a very stark contrast to the rest of the house. Sometimes I feel the size of the house is too big for only 2 persons and we should keep one more tenant. The feeling becomes more strong on weekends when the Daleis take a trip downtown to their native and I am left all alone in this house with nothing to do. I too go to my native very frequently but it's more like one in 3 weeks. It does not help either that my good friend Sam also moves to his native every weekend and I am left with the uncomfortable company of D to get through my weekend. I had a conversation with my students from ILP today and came to know that some of them have got good projects. Talking to them made me recall the extremely sweet memories I have from ILP. I will sometimes write about a retrospective from my Kerala Tour and the amazing friends I made from there. On a side-note, owing to the massive pressure from Mom I finally registered in a matrimony site. She even asked me to bring my data card and notebook to my native then next time I visit them so that they can have a look at prospective brides. Good thing that I have disconnected my wireless connection and opted a wired connection. I have already told them that I need 1 more year before I can think about marriage but parents will always be parents.
1 day to go
So, there it is. I have finally managed to complete my 30 days in Kerala. Some Questions that should pop into my mind at this moment: Was it good? Could it have been better? Should I have actually come here? Only one answer: I am so glad that I came here. One decision that I will never regret in life and the time could not have been better. When I came here, I needed some time out of Bhubaneshwar and I totally got out of all mental pressures after reaching here. I have made some great friends.. absolutely great friends that I can cherish for my whole life. Some of them are the Vfacs, some are the trainees but all of them will have the same place. Some names that are really worth mentioning are Kamal sir, Prakhar, Deepankar from the VFacs. Ishan, Raj, Indivar, Kiran, Srikanth, Aju, Vidhun, Kasi from T62 batch. Swetha, Harsh, Srisha from the T71 batch. This tour has increased my confidence in myself and now I am more rejuvenated and recharged for my next phase of career.

Back To Class
Instructor
I went back to my original batch today after 7 days and on entering the class I got a massive reception by the Trainees. I was overwhelmed by their response and could feel their love and affection towards me at that point. It was one of the glorious moments for me this year and I would never ever forget this moment in my life. I am so happy that I made a decision to come here for the 1 month training.

THE CARPENTER
An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave house-building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career. When the carpenter finished his work, the employer came to inspect the house. He handed the front-door key to the carpenter. "This is your house," he said, "My gift to you." The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building. Then, with a shock we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we'd do it much differently. But, we cannot go back. You are the carpenter. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. "Life is a do-it-yourself project," someone has said. Your attitudes and the choices you make today build the "house" you live in tomorrow. Build Wisely!!
Love you Guys
I am really feeling a great attachment with my students. They are the kids that remind me of my time when I got out of my college. I don't have any younger brother/sister, so I am looking to them as my younger brothers and sisters. They also like me a lot and are forcing me to come back in their batch even though I don't know Automation concepts. Meanwhile I am missing Kamal here in Trivundrum. He was one of the most intellectual guys I have ever met and it was a priviledge for me to be able to meet him. I wish to keep contact with him for the rest of my life. Mayank was another amazing guy who left today morning and although I am not going to miss him as much I am missing Kamal, still it would have been nice to have him around and doing what he does best - Cracking Jokes. There's still 11 days to go before I can leave Trivumdrum. In the last 18 days I haven't got a rest and so this weekend I am cancelling the group trip to Munnar with the guys. Instead I would like to have complete rest during this time.
