Hunter stared out over the horizon as well, comfortable in the silence as always with Quinn. When she spoke again, he huffed a small laugh, blue eyes that seemed far too bright for this world landing on her profile. He adjusted the strap that held his gun close and looked back out over the ruins.

             “This world, yeah… but as society changes, so do our views. Things we once held dear are no longer things we keep close. The definition of ‘the world’ changes. At least it did for me. And as long as my world is alive and breathing, that’s all that matters anymore,” he said quietly. “I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe, Quinn. I mean it. You’re my priority now. My world.”

                    The concept of whatever THIS was between them was still so foreign to her. It had been bouncing around in her head for days, now, and she knew how she felt, but she couldn’t quite bring herself to say it out loud. He was all big words of affection and caring, and all she could do was send him subtle hints and offer up small smiles between devastating tragedy. How could she love in a world full of death? What was the point? Maybe this was the point.
