A protruding support beam on the south side of the Walkway Over the Hudson basks in the evening sunlight high above the Hudson River. Just something we love so much about these details — from the texture to the color and don’t forget the angular piece at the end there! 😍 (at Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CV2lIingTcN/?utm_medium=tumblr

Corruption between local politicians and developers in #Poughkeepsie?! What. A. Shock. — It’s almost like they thought they weren’t going to get caught or something… We highly recommend reading this article out yesterday, URL below but also find a clickable link right in our story. https://therivernewsroom.com/wheaton-park-pelton-mansion-memo-poughkeepsie-developer/ One of the most poignant quotes from the piece is below, but it’s all around a great piece that offers a lot of insight into the way things really get done around the city when there is money on the table. “In Poughkeepsie, we know what it means to lose our landmarks, and the scars are with us every day.” (at Poughkeepsie, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVxcU_wlQzu/?utm_medium=tumblr

A stray flash of lighting illuminates the sky above the Walkway Over the Hudson following tonight’s torrential rainfall around the city. (at Victor C. Waryas Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRc6CeyAAJl/?utm_medium=tumblr
Everyone loves a summer evening along the Hudson, including this family of baby skunks we spotted tonight at Waryas Park. 🦨 While turning from N Water St tonight to head into the Waryas Park circle we noticed a strange looking creature crossing the road in front of us and sure it enough it was what appeared to be a baby skunk. No word on why the skunk crossed the road, but apparently to get to River Station on the other side. And curious because we’d never seen something like that down at the park on a summer evening we kept our eyes open for more of its friends. Sure enough out of the corner of our eye three of them were rummaging around in the short brush at the base of the Rip Van Winkle Apartments, popping in and out and scooting around the hills in the southern part of the park. They were pretty brazen and on the smaller side so it leads us to believe they may be skunk babies testing the limits of their skills after being born this Spring. Regardless of their age, keep an eye out so you don’t get a smelly surprise with your evening stroll along the river, especially if you bring a pet with you. (at Victor C. A once in a decade chance to shape the city for the next generation is here… It’s a rare day when citizens can really help shape the trajectory of the entire city but this #PK4Keeps project is just that. The last time the City Of Poughkeepsie asked for this level of feedback on shaping the city for the future was about a decade ago under a previous less than stellar and poorly organized administration. At the moment the city has the most positive momentum it’s had in a generation and contributing your opinion to this type of survey is crucial to shape what comes next. While we have no affiliation with this project we do think it’s important that as many people as possible get involved in the process and voice their opinion. Maybe you don’t vote in local elections for the mayor or a council person, well this is different, this is addressing fundamental changes in the city that will shape the entire DNA of Poughkeepsie. We urge you to follow along with this process and participate because it will help to lay a groundwork for things to come in the years ahead. Take the survey here - https://www.pk4keeps.org/your-voice (at Poughkeepsie, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRTxPxlAXgQ/?utm_medium=tumblr

This excerpt is from last week’s Times Union article “Poughkeepsie's homeless population being left behind” which also addresses a number of points related to rising housing costs in general in the city and broader Hudson Valley — it’s definitely worth a read, link below. https://www.timesunion.com/hudsonvalley/realestate/article/Poughkeepsie-homeless-being-left-behind-16267942.php (at Poughkeepsie, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQwBAcxAnvP/?utm_medium=tumblr

Revisiting this photo location from our winter work which was a surprise hit (if we’re being honest) now with 100% more summertime flavor. Always interesting to see how the urban landscape of the city changes seasonally, particularly since over the winter this lot on the southern waterfront of the city is barren and come summer is alive with all sorts of wild grass and overgrowth. Proposed routing for the forthcoming Dutchess County Urban Rail Trail which will bring an additional north to south trail that cuts through and connects into the northside of the City of Poughkeepsie. The trail will begin up at the new Hudson Heritage development in the Town of Poughkeepsie and make its way down intersecting with the current Dutchess County Rail Trail and continuing further south before coming out on North Hamilton St. You can zoom in on this map to see the proposed routing and you can get even more hands on by providing your input on the proposed plans via a survey from the county at: DutchessCountyUrbanTrail.com (at Dutchess Rail Trail) https://www.instagram.com/p/CP5qkRvA_xO/?utm_medium=tumblr
Just in time for the (rainy) holiday weekend the construction cones and caution tape came off the new Walkway’s East Gate Plaza late this afternoon. The bulk of the weekend looks like a wet and cold washout but Memorial Day will possibly bring more seasonable and warm weather back to give it a try.
