It’s a double-edged sword. I’m currently in a community where, on the contrary, many popular figures are constantly criticized even for minor things. although it will be MUCH larger than the ptr fandom.
constant criticism of everything is very exhausting. and that’s not even mentioning the dysfunctional "culture of cancel" which tbh I don’t approve of.
I don’t approve of it for one simple reason - “cancel culture” often turns into bullying. Yes, I don’t approve of Zero’s actions, and at times she really did go too far (even though I share her somewhat controversial sense of humor), but she’s just a kid(?? I don't know how old she is but I'd guess she's younger than me) who needs to be talked to calmly, not subjected to a boycott targeting her and everyone around her
bc of the cancel culture in the fandom,we’ve lost several good artists due to their minor mistakes. Yes, there really are some very bad people out there - people you’re better off not associating with but they’re few and far between
yes, people need to be made aware of their mistakes, and yes, they can and should be criticized. but they shouldn't be excluded from the fandom, unless we're talking about gr**ming or something similar.
oh, and kicking proshippers/darkshippers out of the fandom is pointless, too. If they're on your “do not interact” list, just don't interact with them. keep it simple.
I know a lot of people won't agree with me (and honestly, I don't give a shit - I've got nothing left to lose; I left the ptr fandom a year ago), but I hope you'll all be understanding and accept my opinion and my broken english.
