Dierks Foland’s ‘Summit’ remake no longer going forward?
So like a lot of Daniel Mendoza fans, I was skeptical when I heard that Foland had announced he was remaking the 1983 cult horror classic. Personally I don’t think it needs a remake (most movies don’t?) but to be the directorial debut of someone who’s only been in the MCU? Be serious. But apparently he’s had to withdraw the statement anyway because Mendoza’s daughter (Ripley, I think? I’m sure she was Sue in Mendoza’s ‘Carrie’) refuses to give him the rights to it and he’s threatening to sue her? Idk how true all this is but thought it was an interesting rumour anyway.

oh it’s true lmfao he had a 3am twitter crashout and called ripley a smug bitch before his account was wiped (again) this man is not wellllll

Sorry but she IS a smug bitch? Holding the rights to a movie that wasn’t even that good in the first place is such loser behaviour when Dierks could win it an OSCAR!! Like who does she think she is to hold those rights????? 😡

literally the og filmmaker’s daughter? can’t u read? it’s always a dierks fan at the illiteracy scene

That shouldn’t mean anything when a talented lovely kind (not to mention HOT) man who is a FANTASTIC actor has a vision??? He would be so much better than the other actor in the original movie anyway. talk about ugly

I don’t have much stakes in Dierks Foland. I don’t watch MCU movies so I haven’t seen him act. But Ripley Mendoza is technically the copyright holder for Summit right now. If she doesn’t want it remade, it won’t be. Not unless Foland has the best lawyer in the business. But really, why are we still focusing on remakes? Mendoza should’ve locked his shit down and never even let G/uadagnino remake S/uspiria. I’m not surprised his daughter doesn’t want someone else getting his hands on one of his best.

Apparently in Dierks’ unmedicated rant he said it was bc Ripley wanted to remake the movie herself

Idk about that. I didn’t think she was still in the industry. Literally I thought she’d moved to Mexico permanently but heard other people say she works as a waitress now, so who knows

Has it ever occurred to the people on here that a daughter grieving her father might know what's best for his legacy? And that just maybe, given her own ties to the industry, she probably has a better idea of what would serve him best? Because I'd wager that Ripley has a better vision than Dierks Foland. By a long shot. And, frankly, I agree that remakes are tired. We don't need them. The classics are classics for a reason, let's keep them that way. And trust the process, while we're at it. Let Ripley prove that she knows what's in her father's best interest, and stop relying on broke, washed out Hollywood actors who are only good for destroying the good that's left in the industry.

if i had to watch foland pout his way through a remake of summit i would’ve committed a small felony
