Steps for Making a Custom Poster Start by determining what your original image size is and the size of the custom poster you want to print. Starting with an image that is 2000 px or larger on each side is good for most large sized poster printing. Below that, to about 1000 pixels per side is good for 24 x 36 poster enlarging.

When images are down near 500 pixels or less it’s time to look to Super Resolution Image Enlargement techniques.

With most modern cell phone a shape picture should be print a poster up to 40 x 60 inches well.

Aspect

The ratio between the sides is called the aspect ratio. When altering the ratio it can reduce quality. You can either stretch your image, crop it or include black or colored bars on the edges.  

Gloss or Matte

You need to choose between Gloss or Matte paper.  While Gloss is the more popular unframed, Matte is shine free  with better depth and detail and more often framed.
