Triggers can be anything. 

And I do mean anything. From mentions or pictures of cats to mentioning a certain TV show. They can be certain franchises, or specific games in a franchise. They can be bugs, they can be sounds, they can be plushies, they can be music or smells. They can be mentioning certain foods, or certain words or metaphors or phrases.

Triggers don’t have to be things that are already scary to mention like blood or someone getting hurt. Just because a trigger isn’t common doesn’t mean it isn’t valid.

Triggers are serious. They bring a person back to a time where they were seriously hurt. They cause flashbacks and anxiety and distress.

People cannot help their triggers. They do not choose to be hurt by these specific things, it’s just how it happened.

You don’t have to understand why. Please don’t ask people why certain things trigger them. Just understand that it does. Never bring up someone’s triggers to them, if they bring it up they’re mentally well enough to talk about it. If not, don’t talk about it. It isn’t hard to avoid certain subjects around them. It isn’t hard to tag things if asked.
