Biography:

Ian Kim was born and raised in Toronto to Korean immigrant parents, his family is what most would consider ‘too much’ mainly because there were many of them to go around. There was never a dull moment in their household - with four sisters he was the youngest and the only boy, which meant that Ian was the family’s darling and his sisters tended to be overly protective and doted on him the most.

He started showing interest in hockey at a very young age, his talent was as raw and unrefined as it was promising. The sound of the puck slamming against the hockey stick and the feel of the ice beneath his feet were the only things that managed to hold the attention of an otherwise restless and overactive toddler.

Despite his talent, high school was a series of missteps and squandered opportunities. His immaturity often getting the best of him; even though Ian was physically present in the rink, his mind wandered elsewhere - partying, and a freshly discovered interest in submissives, causing him to often be relegated to the bench. When he did make it to the ice, his performance was commendable, if not slightly reckless, often resulting in penalties and fights.

Despite his unpredictable trajectory, Ian managed to secure a spot at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, majoring in communications, while continuing his hockey pursuits. College proved to be a turning point in his life. Ian struggled to keep himself on the team, while being somewhat academically successful and spending most of his time partying. It was challenging and the young dominant was always skating on thin ice. His performance was inconsistent at best. But he did have his moments of brilliance, offering glimpses of what he could achieve if he harnessed his potential and disciplined himself.

Following his graduation, Ian’s hockey career took an unexpected turn. A scout for the Port Cado Stormbreakers, a well-known team in the NHL, spotted him during one of those exceptional games. His untamed, raw energy was seen as a diamond in the rough, and Ian was offered a position as a right-wing forward, a position that required speed, skill, and a certain level of unpredictability - characteristics that Ian had in abundance.

Nam Jiwoo was born the eldest of three children to a wealthy Seoul family made up of his successful chaebol mother and her two submissives, who were equally as accomplished in their fields. From a young age, it was assumed he would follow in his mother’s footsteps, becoming the next leader of the family company, but Ji had other ideas. After watching figure skating on television, he decided early on that he would have to become a figure skater. His parents were all supportive, happy to give their children the freedom to choose their own path.

Throughout his childhood, Ji trained hard, waking early in the morning to skate before school, only to return to practice after classes and his English hagwon let out for the day. Once he was old enough, he started competing, and when he did well, he started traveling to junior championships across the globe. At fifteen, he won Junior Worlds and the following year he entered in the adult category for the first time. Since then, he’s continued to dazzle, earning him sponsorships and opportunities to work with choreographers and coaches and costume designers. Sometimes it was isolating, keeping him from experiencing so much of what young people typically experienced. Dating, friendships, things like this. But he pushed forward, too ambitious to stop.

At eighteen, following a falling out with his coach, Ji made the choice to move to Port Cado, where retired skater Jude Florez was now training skaters. It was difficult, moving to a new country all alone, but Ji was determined to train with the best. It was at the rink that he met Adrien, Jude’s younger brother, when his hockey team came to practice. For the first time in his life, Ji was smitten, falling over himself to impress someone other than coaches and judges and fans. They fell in love, and within a year, they were planning their claim ceremony. Their claim was beloved amongst fans of both figure skating and ice hockey, as they were often present to support each other. A perfect match.

They were together for ten years before the accident. It was a rainy night, one where many things went wrong. A tense visit to Adrien’s parents’ home, an argument during the drive home, and the collision with the other vehicle, which would disappear before the police and ambulance arrived. Adrien died on impact, and Ji was left with multiple injuries and a loss that would cancel the rest of his season. They never found the driver of the other vehicle.

A year ago, Port Cado was a footnote in Ethan Choi’s past. A thing to be mentioned during a conversation as a throwaway fact that most people would forget minutes after. And Ethan would’ve liked for it to stay that way - a footnote in his background as the terrible place he had to suffer as a teenager before finally, he packed his bags and left. Growing up is always hard. Growing up in Port Cado as a kid that was too skinny for how tall he was, glasses too thick for his face and a stutter was nothing short of horrible. He was easy pickings and in Morrel Point being easy pickings meant you had to grow tough skin and only barely managed.

Ethan left as soon as possible, once he high school was over and done with he picked a university miles away from the hellhole that was Port Cado. Graduating with a degree in science and criminal justice he knew exactly what path he wanted to take. The police academy was grueling, but Ethan was nothing if determined to push through. People took notice, a few years later he was already working in the organized crime division - a special unit.

Ethan was a grunt, doing mostly surveillance and gathering evidence but it was worth every second. He knew a promotion was coming any day, hoping for a collaborative liaison position and it came - sure. Only not in the way, Ethan had hoped for. He was assigned to work with a unit in his home town. Going back it seemed like nothing had changed in Port Cado and everything had at the same time. He wasn’t that skittish, easy-to-bully kid anymore but Ethan still felt like he was playing pretend and everyone could see right through his bullshit.

Except this dealer was stretching his profit by mixing his drugs with a little something extra. Teddy woke up three days after the party, hospitalized, in agony, and engulfed in grief - for himself and for his friends. He still has nightmares, almost twenty years later about the events of that night.
