Creating a feature area or vibe doesn't have to be hard or expensive! My coffee table display is mostly found items, bottles and bits and bobs found at the beach or thrifted. The most expensive thing was the beetle at $8 haha you may not think pieces will come together but experiment with placement. Get some vintage books. Eventually you will find a look you like.

I took out my kitchen blind which was becoming a bit tatty and decided to start a window display.
The rustic crescent moon actually arises from a huge fail on my part. I confess... I'm one of the few people to have actually managed to kill a yucca. This moon is actually made from the yucca roots after it became root bound in its pot and withered away. I wrapped some twine around a bundle I collected, tightly at the ends and progressively looser towards the middle to give it shape.
The ivy in the picture is a freebie from a neighbourhood walk, this sucker was crawling along the footpath and clings to whatever with a shallow root system. Much cheaper than the $5 fake ones at Kmart. Because of their roots they're easy to grow in a cup. I sat mine in water for a week to encourage root growth then plonked some potting mix in a cup and its growing pretty well. I'm going to train it to go around the windowsill.
Like any good witchy girl I also dry my own herbs. From the garden here I have fresh rosemary, partly dried sage and dried lavender. Normally I would keep them separate so the scents don't interfere with one another but these are going to be ground down together anyway. This small drying dangle is made from twine and wooden pegs. How easy!!

Kmart is now selling flower presses for all you Aussie DIYers otherwise it's easily enough done with some baking paper (on top of and underneath flower) , a book and something heavy to put on top. It can take around 3 weeks to dry out.
Display choices range from decoupage, naturalist journal style page in a frame, glued to a glass frame, taped to a mirror etc etc. Just remember to be very careful when handling 😊

Hey there!!! Today I felt inspired, and it's been a while since my last good quality post, so we're gonna make a fabric pin of a death moth! You can also follow the steps here to make your own patterns of another bug. If you make this, I'd *really, really* love to see it. Let's start!
You'll need: Dark fabric, a small piece of cardboard, a paper with the patterns (you can print or trace them, glue, a little of wire and bleach or white paint
1- First, you have to cut the patterns and pass them onto the fabric.
2- Cut the pieces off.
3- Now, in order for the fabric to not fall apart, we're gonna add a little of glue around the edges. If you have synthetic fabric you can melt the edges with a lighter, but be extremely careful with that.
4- Cut another B piece, of cardboard now, and glue it to the back of A
5- Glue four small wires to the wings of A and C making sure they overlap with the body a little. This is in order to make them stronger. You wont need them if you use fabric that doesn't bend easily.
6- Take another wire, fold it slightly in half and paint it black. This is to make the antennas. You can also use cardboard, or pipe cleaner to make them fuzzy.
7- Glue the pieces together in this order from back to front: A, B, C and D (unexpected, I know). Don't forget the antennas between C and D.
8- This is the fun part; paint the moth. Go wild. I went for the classic but you can make geometric shapes, eyes, spirals... I used bleach because I like the look, but be careful with that. You can use white paint too.
9- Glue a pin to the back. If you prefer it to be a necklace or anything else, glue whatever you want.

Jar Lamp
The Jar Lantern is a contemporary take on the traditional gas lantern. It was inspired by seeing sunlight refract through my glass water bottle one afternoon, and thinking to myself that it was a bit like carrying a jar full of light. This brief moment of illumination sparked something in my mind that made me wonder how I could capture this experience more permanently.
While trying to bottle light may be a fool’s task, I could at least try to recreate the sense of magic I had briefly experienced. After mulling over various methods of accomplishing this, I decided to make a jar with an illuminated floating light bulb. The beauty of this seemingly impossible object is that the light bulb has no clear power source, yet it seems so natural and familiar. The Jar Lantern tends to leave people both taken and dumbfounded by its simplicity.
