International Markhor Day

International Markhor Day is observed annually on 24 May to raise awareness about the conservation of the markhor, a wild mountain goat native to Central and South Asia.

But I didn't feel like drawing it so here's a chibi profile picture I drew for my friend yesterday as her birthday gift.

World Turtle Day

World Turtle Day, held on May 23rd, is an internationally acknowledged day that celebrates all turtles and raises awareness about the threats they face.

Sea turtle species are classed as vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. Turtles are endangered because of human activity. They are hunted for their eggs, shells, and meat, or are unintentionally caught in fishing nets and waste plastics. Other threats include habitat destruction, sea turtle farming, climate change, pollution, and entanglement in fishing gear.

World Biodiversity Day

Biodiversity is declining faster than ever. Three-quarters of the land-based environment and about 66% of the marine environment have been significantly altered by human actions. 1 million animal and plant species are now threatened with extinction. Climate change, pollution, overexploitation, invasive species, and urbanization are driving this crisis.

The International Day for Biological Diversity, 22nd may, is a call to act and transform how we live and reconnect with nature.

World Bee Day

Bees and other pollinators are essential for our existence, sustaining agriculture and biodiversity worldwide. However, they face unprecedented pressures due to land use change, climate change, indiscriminate use of agrochemicals, and invasive pests and pathogens. The celebration of World Bee Day on 20 May presents an opportunity to step up our efforts to protect bees and other pollinators. By doing so, we can mitigate risks to food security and nutrition, agricultural livelihoods, biodiversity and the environment.

Every year, on 18 May, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) organises International Museum Day (IMD), a global event highlighting the transformative role of museums in society. In 2026, IMD will explore “Museums Uniting a Divided World”, focusing on how museums can act as bridges across cultural, social, and geopolitical divides, fostering dialogue, understanding, inclusion, and peace within and between communities worldwide.
