every family eventually reaches the point where its history becomes impossible to verify. nobody remembers dates. everyone remembers stories. after two generations, anecdotes become evidence, family legends become accepted fact, and one relative inevitably acquires the reputation of having been either a saint or a complete menace depending on who's telling the story.
I think that if you lose an arm and get fitted for a prosthetic u should get to refer to your prosthetist as your arms dealer
And if it's a leg you can call them your footman like you're tge queen of france

the most intimate sentence in the english language is actually 'text me when you reach home.'

The Semiotics of the Indian Auntie
one of my favourite things about growing older is realising that the "indian auntie" is not really a personality type. she's an institution.
the internet has flattened her into a joke: the woman who asks why you've become "so thin" immediately after telling you you've become "so fat", who somehow knows you're dating before your parents do, who appears at every wedding with the omniscience of a minor deity and leaves with three new pieces of family intelligence. and yes, that person exists. but treating her as merely nosy misses what she's actually doing.
you know what's interesting about an auntie's position in society? she has authority without office. she isn't your parent, your teacher, your employer or an elected representative, and YET she can alter your reputation in ways all four of them sometimes can't. she's an information exchange, a marriage broker, an archivist of family history, an unofficial welfare department, a moral commentator, a neighbourhood ombudsman and, occasionally, an intelligence agency with an alarmingly effective human network. an auntie dons a hat with many feathers.
people often dismiss gossip as frivolous, but gossip is one of the oldest social technologies we have. it's how communities circulate information, negotiate trust, reward conformity and quietly punish deviation. that doesn't make it morally good (god knows informal surveillance can be exhausting), but it does make it socially important. the same network that knows your cgpa, your salary package and the exact date you started wearing kajal also organises hospital rotas, finds a maths tutor for your cousin, recommends the only plumber who won't overcharge, cooks for bereaved families, tracks down prospective tenants, remembers who needs insulin, and notices when an elderly neighbour hasn't opened her windows in two days.
we spend so much time talking about the state, the market and the family that we forget there's this enormous middle layer holding indian society together: reciprocal obligation, social memory and women doing unpaid administrative labour under the wonderfully misleading label of "just keeping in touch."
which is why the figure of the auntie produces such contradictory emotions. she can be invasive and extraordinarily kind. deeply conservative in one conversation and startlingly pragmatic in the next. capable of policing your clothing at a wedding and then quietly slipping you the number of a good gynaecologist because she noticed you looked unwell.
maybe every society has informal institutions like this.
it's just that ours wear chiffon sarees, carry tupperware home after functions, know everyone's business, and somehow keep the neighbourhood running anyway.

we need non cancerous cigarettes to give to women so they look hot. men get the normal kind
happy friendship day y'all <3
When I was a child i was thinking yaar inn bade logo ki life kitni sahi hai...and ab jab bada ho rha hu problems aa rhe zindagi ki aisi taisi ho rakhi hai to sochta hu yaar inn bachho ki life kitni sahi hai...khana pina khelna padhna...
it's "just one resignation," sure. but politics is about narratives as much as numbers.
for years, the bjp was remarkably good at deciding which stories dominated the news cycle and which ones disappeared after a day. what's changed isn't that they've suddenly become powerless, it's that they're no longer able to control the conversation as reliably as before.
stories that would've been dismissed, buried, or reframed are now sticking. the opposition, civil society, independent media, and even internal dissent are getting more attention. whether that translates into electoral losses is another question, but losing control over the narrative is often the first sign that political dominance isn't as absolute as it once looked.
It's not only about narratives... it's also about the truth.
And the truth is that the entire CJP movement was a manufactured conspiracy by gutter worms, cockroaches, and their supporters.I hope those cockroaches and their supporters will one day answer the below.
Why were there more than 900 people with criminal backgrounds at Jantar Mantar, including individuals accused of murder, rape, and POCSO offences? This is the real face of the CJP movement. After the identification of individuals accused of murder, rape, and POCSO offences (the so-called "NEET aspirants," according to CJP supporters), there are now demands to withdraw the FIRs. Wow... just wow.But I'm not surprised by these demands for the withdrawal of FIRs. This is what they really are. Shamelessly, people online are blindly defending these so-called "NEET aspirants" despite the allegations involving rape, murder, and POCSO offences.
this argument falls apart the moment you apply the same standard consistently.
yes, delhi police claimed around 989 people present had pending criminal cases. that's their figure. but the protests drew close to 1 lakh people over multiple days. you're taking roughly 1% of the crowd and pretending it defines the other 99%. that's statistically absurd.
and "criminal antecedents" doesn't mean "convicted criminal." in india, it includes pending FIRs and ongoing cases. if an FIR alone made someone a criminal, then by the same logic you'd have to dismiss parliament itself.
according to ADR's analysis of the 2024 lok sabha, 94 of the BJP's 240 MPs (39%) have declared criminal cases, and 63 (26%) face serious criminal cases, including allegations relating to murder, attempt to murder, and crimes against women. across the entire lok sabha, 46% of MPs have declared criminal cases, with 31% facing serious ones.
so tell me: if 39% of BJP MPs have criminal cases, should we conclude the BJP is a "criminal conspiracy"? or does that logic suddenly stop being convenient when it's your side?
prosecute anyone who's guilty. nobody is arguing otherwise. but using 1% of a protest to discredit an entire movement while happily voting for politicians with pending criminal cases is pure hypocrisy.
and finally, this has nothing to do with the original point. the discussion was about narrative control. instead of explaining why the government lost control of the story, you've switched to attacking the protesters.
every time i fact-check one of a sanghi’s favorite talking points, i end up wondering if reading the article was ever part of the plan. it’s genuinely impressive how they manage to be so loud and so wrong at the same time.
yaar this story gets recycled every few months and every single time people fall for it. ‘reservation is handing out medical seats to people with minus 40 marks.’ like at least read what actually happened before starting the annual meltdown.
what actually happened? around 18,000 pg seats were still lying vacant after multiple rounds of counselling. so the government temporarily reduced the qualifying percentile to 0 for every single category. yes, every category. not just reserved categories. general, obc, sc, st, everyone.
and before someone starts screaming “0 percentile means people with minus 40 got seats!!!” congratulations, you’ve confused eligibility to apply with actually getting admitted. lowering the cutoff just meant more people could enter counselling. admission still depended on merit, available seats, counselling rounds, and whether any colleges still had vacancies.
the goofiest part? the lowest-scoring candidate who eventually got admitted was from the general category, not a reserved category, the student had scored 0 out of 800. kind of awkward for the “reservation ruined merit” cinematic universe.
yes, some candidates with very low marks eventually got seats. but that happened because colleges still had empty seats after multiple counselling rounds. that’s a seat-filling issue, not a reservation issue.
so no, reservation didn’t magically hand mbbs seats to people with “minus 40 marks.” people just mashed together neet ug and neet pg, confused eligibility with admission, ignored that 0 percentile applied to everyone, and then acted like they had uncovered the scam of the century.
